Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Andy mentioned in his article we are not likely to take Randle back (thank you god) and it’s likely to be Fournier or Rose.

He also said the talks between them had some feeling a deal could have been done as early as yesterday. Essentially saying it could happen in a matter of hours, days or weeks depending on who has incentive to budge first.

The best part of all of this so far has been hearing all my Celtics Fans friends (I have a whopping 3) continue to mumble about, "whatever... good work by Ainge as always. But it's nothing like what we did to the Nets."

Every Boston local has a bizarre sports inferiority complex despite amazing runs by the Pats, Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics. They're like in a permanent state of butt hurt.

They're always sensitive and defensive when nobody was trying to have that conversation, lol

Not to mentioned we hired their top assistant.

I hope it's not days or weeks. I can't live on 2 hours of sleep and 100% alert levels for too long. It's stressful.

I have almost an entire thesis in my head about why leaving the toilet seat up is the logical, practical and even moral thing to do. It ties in with my other thesis on why you shouldn't clean out the lint trap after you dry your clothes.

Knicks will buckle tomorrow. Don’t play poker with Danny Ainge. He’ll take your money, your clothes, eat your dinner and impregnate your wife.

The longer they play, the more it’s going to cost them. I actually think the Knicks need Mitchell more than the Jazz do at this point.

If the Jazz keep him? Ok. Not ideal, but fine. Trade him to another team? As long as it’s an asset haul, I don’t think anyone connected to the Jazz cares. . .

. . . But if New York gets thiiiiiisssss close to trading for Mitchell and then it doesn’t happen - both Knicks fans and Mitchell will be unhappy about those results, while DA just bides his time for the right offer to come in.

Again, I’m shaking hands at 5 firsts, 3 swaps, Quickley, Toppin, matching salary. And I prefer that to 6 firsts and 2 swaps as it puts the Jazz in control of more consecutive years of their drafts which matters if (when?) the bottom falls out in NY.

The key to the pick swaps is that they are 2025 and later. Since we are tanking there is no point in having one of them over the next few years.

24/26/28 I’m thinking we just take 26/28 no real reason to push for 24.

You’d rather have a 2024 pick swap than an extra first?

I just listened to this interview and Tony also said that sources told him a deal was close Tuesday evening but the Knicks backed off a little bit. He said sources from both sides have told him that conversations are continuing but nothing is imminent.

Another interesting thing he said is that the Jazz scouting department gave a 20 minute presentation on why they should draft Jaden McDaniels, they went with Dok instead, and he said that move killed this era of the Jazz.

I have heard that because the Knicks have some other teams’ 1sts, that they can trade picks from consecutive years (can someone confirm if this is true). If so, this draft compensation is exactly what I’d want:
-‘23 1st (probably protected in some way, don’t they have potentially three 1sts? Maybe take the 2nd best of the picks available or something)
-‘24 unprotected
-‘25 swap
-‘26 unprotected
-‘27 swap
-‘28 unprotected
-‘29 swap
-‘30 lightly protected

That is if this is legal. Gives the Jazz the Knicks’ draft, gives the Jazz a guarantee they get a ‘24 pick, throws another ‘23 to the pile (which you can either use to fill out the depleted roster or use to trade up somewhere).

Ainge getting 11 firsts for Rudy, Don, and Royce plus a bevy of young dudes and tradeable contracts is a super flex.
Still have deals to be made for Bogey, Clarkson, Beverley, Conley and Beasley too - plus maybe subsequent deals for any of the players that come over in the trade for Mitchell or any of these other guys that I’ve listed.
