What's new

The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

Im doing fine. Literally 2 days ago i just placed an order for a 2022 toyota 4runner. Should be here in about 5 weeks. Gonna put about 40-45,000 dollars down. I dont even make close to 100,000 per year and wife doesnt work btw.

A big problem for people finacially right now is high rent and high mortgage payments. I bought my house back before trump was elected. Since he was elected prices have went sky high.

Tough time to buy a car. Any reason you are doing it now vs. waiting?

Dude. Why? You do know the 4Runner is being redesigned with the next generation being the 2023 model, right? They've made a bunch of improvements. You just paid a huge sum of money to order a last generation 4Runner. Enjoy that depreciation.

2024 is the new 4Runner. Probably will be some deals next year to clear out the 2023’s, but you never know in this market.

With the US economy being as dominant as it is, that is how it works. When the US economy sneezes, the world catches cold. The democrats have wrecked the US economy and the world is going to pay the price.

Simply untrue.

Its actually happening in 2024. And the redesign and next gen coming is a big reason im buying now. I dont want the redesigned nex gen.
Also, i prefer a vehicle without all the new tech. I dont want lane monotoring or heated seats or anything. Hell i would buy my 4runner with manually cranking roll up windows like they had back in the day.

I like what i like regardless of what you think i should like.

I can sell my truck that is already paid off for the same amount i paid for it back in 2016 and new vehicles are currently cheaper than used due to availability.

Ah, gotcha. Truck prices are just nuts - pretty crazy to think that something 5+ years old with 50k or more is fetching more than MSRP back in the day. Look at it this way, you basically got a vehicle free to drive for 5+ years.

I have a daughter that will will be driving in two years so I'm hoping we'll see a soft market - small cars are in the same boat where you're basically better buying new.

This doesn’t seem like a winning strategy for Republicans. Why did they block this? And how exactly does the filibuster help anything?

Jon Stewart is amazing

Mehdi is right… imagine if “the squad” killed a bill to help Iraqi war veterans. Fox News would be losing their minds.

I really hope Americans are paying attention instead of reflexively blaming Biden for this not passing. It’s hard to govern in this country when one political party refuses to help. We of course could pass another tax cut for the rich with just 50 votes. But we need 60 (so some help from Repubs would be nice) to pass aid for veterans.

Instead, Repubs want to replay the exact same game plan they used against Obama by obstructing all legislation, creating a huge pile up, and then blaming the president.

Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked a bill to help veterans exposed to toxic burn pits weeks after the measure initially sailed through the Senate with 84 votes, angering Democrats, veterans groups and comedian Jon Stewart, a leading proponent to aid the community.

Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, was particularly incensed by the turn of events. Tester, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), other lawmakers and Stewart on Thursday morning joined veterans outside the Capitol — who originally came to Washington to see the bill pass — to assail the GOP.

“It just makes the gut punch that more devastating,” Stewart said, given the number of veterans who came to Washington hoping the bill would pass. “Their constituents are dying.”
But as we’ve seen, Repubs don’t care if people die. Shove a flashlight up your *** and down some Lysol. Performative Politics is all that matters.

Veterans — some in shirts emblazoned with the American flag and others wearing masks — held up signs. One read “Sick and dying veterans need healthcare,” while another held the GOP responsible with the words “Veterans blood is on Republican hands.”
A version of the legislation was approved by the Senate by a vote of 84-14 in June. It was back in the Senate on Wednesday because the House made some modest changes before passing the bill on a 342-88 vote about two weeks ago.
Repubs supported the bill two weeks ago. What changed?

That and how 'defund the police' has spiked crime rates

Police budgets in most City’s has increased. SLC did, and hired more case workers and mental health workers. A liberal af city. Crime is still historically low anyway. I think you should focus more on the conservative pedophile and voter fraud problems. Y’all got issues.

... and how school lock outs have hurt the next generation with the most vulnerable children being the hardest hit

Trump policy. Talk to him about his amazing pandemic response.

... and how drag bars are having kids days to sexualize children

Culture war bs. Plus drag shows are amazing, dad. Mind your own business.

... and how Biden is barely functional when his meds wear off

Y’all sure are terrified of the guy. Is he an invalid or Satan?

... and the problems at the border

This is an important issue and agree it needs to be addressed. The system is garbage. Not a midterm winning issue, but valid. Agreed.

... and the corruption at the FBI with evidence coming to light of how they spiked the Hunter Biden investigation

You know Steve Bannon personally pushed this. Honestly I don’t give two *****s. Prosecute the dude. Even if it implicates Biden. Go for it. It’s stupid, but whatever. Just do it already instead of complaining.

... and how the economy is now in recession

Fox confirming the technical definition of a recession has occurred does not a recession make. Can’t confirm yet.

... and a bunch more but you are right in that it will be primarily about inflation and gas prices, things that clearly the Democrats are responsible for and are directly hurting the most people.

Oh, I read Fox, Breitbart, TGP, etc too, buddy.

Inflation is caused by corporations. They set prices. You pay them. Government can institute temporary measures or long term solutions, but nothing near term. Corporations are charging you higher prices, not democrats. I don’t expect any reduction in prices till after the midterms. I hope it’s worth it to the republicans.

Gas prices are determined by many things, most importantly refinery capacity. US refineries are maxed. Prices are high, but dropping rapidly. Democrats don’t control gas prices.

Please diversify your news sources. You’re spewing talking points, word for word, from the sites I cited above. It’s all opinion and propaganda. Fake news. I thought the right was good at rooting that stuff out? Please watch or listen to “left leaning” news, sift out the obvious partisanship, and understand facts. Keep reading your garbage, and come back with an original thought.

My wife’s friend literally just did this. Pre-Covid she was looking at selling her used car (I think it was an accord) and didn’t like the sell price. Now? She can sell her car for more than she could a few years ago and now she’s buying a new vehicle (Tesla). The economy definitely has some cool quirks to it right now that people can use to their advantage.

Good luck to ya. Lol at the windows comment. I too don’t need all the technology. I don’t even like having a big iPad thing at the front. Just give me a few knobs for the radio and AC and I’m set. The only bit of tech I find helpful is the backup cam. My car doesn’t have it but my wife’s car does. That thing really is helpful. Maybe I just suck at driving in reverse ?

Yes corporations set prices but they do not set the value of the dollar. The value of the dollar rises and falls with the supply and demand of the dollar. The democrats created too much supply and it resulted in a falling value of the dollar. The Fed is working to contract the supply of the dollar to halt its fall. You are fruit loops if you think there is a grand conspiracy among all corporations to make it look like the dollar is worth less than it used to be, or if you think greed in corporations is a completely new thing that didn't exist 18 months ago. It isn't COVID. It isn't corporate conspiracy. It isn't supply chain issues. It was the spike in the M2 money supply that caused inflation.

Ya everything used is way expensive right now because you can have them right now. My mom bought a 2022 camry in 2021 and it took 10 months to get to her. Crazy. I got really lucky. I was told that the 4runner I want with the exact trim and color I want would take between 3 and 10 months (I was told this over the phone). When I went to do a test drive and start the ordering process I lucked out as there was one in long beach port in the color and trim I wanted. Only thing I didn't want on mine was a USB package (extra ports that light up when they finish charging and are fast chargers and a few other crap I dont care about) that was on this one. Everything else was exactly what I wanted. I am supposed to get it in 5 weeks.

In regard to all the new technology, my co worker was just talking last night about how the windshield on his brand new Pallisade broke. Its one of those cool windshields that show your speed and stuff right on the windshield. It cost 6,000 dollars to replace lol. Im fine with a standard windshield.

P.S. I dont know how many cars I have owned in my life (im guessing between 10-15) but BY FAR my favorite was my Nissan Xterra. Nothing else comes close. They dont make those anymore unfortunately and the 4runner is about the closest thing to it. In fact when I looked up the specs of the 4runner vs the Xterra they were almost identical in every way from engine, transmission, lenth, height, width, legroom, ground clearance, gas mileage (both suck), etc. I cant wait!

Agree 100% about the back up camera. That is one thing that I really like having.

What changed is that democrats lied. The guy you quoted who said Republicans did this in retaliation for Democrats making prescription drugs more affordable is telling the truth.

For those new to this story, a provision of the Affordable Care Act was passed with a sunset. It had to be done that way to get the cost down being advertised to the voting public. That sunset is coming up which would have meant the ACA would have become a crapload more expensive right before the midterm elections. The democrats hammered out a deal to push out the sunset another 3 years over strong republican objections. It is laughably called the Inflation Reduction Act but in reality it is the opposite. It is also being sold as a solution to climate change, but both the bill's title and climate change spending are cover for the real purpose of the bill; to not have ACA bills double right before the midterm election.

The republicans supported the bill to help out the troops with the understanding the democrats wouldn't push through another multi-trillion dollar spending bill. The democrats lied and so the republicans withdrew their support.
