What's new

On the record...

While I've made my peace with this tear-down and everything, I just keep asking myself: who has this actually worked for so far?

Who stockpiled a whole bunch of FRPs and then turned them into a championship?

When all is said and done, my fear is that we will have traded away the third best player in franchise history, at 30 years old, who would have been a lifer, for a package of irrelevance, because we're seduced by possibility.
I love Rudy… think he will have success… I think we will have very little to regret.

I just don’t think we had any good path forward.

I think that’s where the division is. We had a flaw, didn’t correct it, failed again, didn’t correct, then failed a third time. Instead of correcting, we go nuclear, saying it couldn’t have worked even though we didn’t really try anything different. If the car isn’t in drive, hitting the accelerator won’t do anything. If someone keeps saying to put it in drive, but the person neglects that to only hit the accelerator, I’d hope after a couple times the person telling them to put it in drive would kick their *** and do it themself rather than saying “****, you’re right. Get a new car.”

If KAT was 6'8 and had the exact same defensive/big man impact, people would love his fit with Gobert. But because he's a 7 footer people want to believe he can be a C and do the big man stuff. Truth is, he can't and he never will be able to. The Wolves were smart to not hang onto this idea that KAT is a big man who will do the big man stuff. He never was that guy and never will be. Now he can be the superstar player he is on team that isn't devoid of all the big man qualities.
Not only that, but most teams used their centers to guard Vanderbilt last year. It's not like KAT being guarded by 4's is new.

I agree... I just think the engine was fine (Rudy)... but the rest of the car got busted up and wasn't replaceable for the budget we had.

I just don't think we could go anywhere. I think Rudy's deal has a lot of risk to it on the backend and cashing out now was smart. Now if we are able to move the rest of the parts and complete the deal I think we will look back and consider it smart.

I also don't believe in Minny... just not sure KAT is a winner... not sure ANT takes the next steps. It is interesting but I don't think they win a title or even go to the finals. It was a fine risk for them to take though because they've been out the first round like once? maybe twice?

This is textbook liking a player so much you think nothing can or will go wrong. When it does you’re sitting there wondering how you got there then start making up excuses for why you’re there instead of facing the facts.

IDK, I'm super high on Edwards. I think he has a shot at being a top 20 guy. At the very least I think he has one more sizeable jump in his game to get on the consistent 25 ppg on decent efficiency level.

I'm not 100% certain he will be better than Mitchell, but I think he's got a really great chance. Plus he has the legitimate size to be a "turn it on" kind of defender unlike Mitchell.

Also super excited to see D'Angelo Russell with Gobert. It will really test how much better Gobert is able to make ball screen players. I think he will have a career year, maybe not statistically, but I think the basketball nerds will be like "Damn, Russell is good".

I use to be super high on D'Lo as a young prospect, then I really reversed on him, but I think he's ready for a career resurgence w/ Gobert. I think he's matured as last year he only took 15 shots per game. That was probably a hard adjustment for him, but I think Gobert will give him a level of comfort he hasnt had in a while.

1 wtf has Quin Snyder escaped so much of the scrutiny and criticism that he probably should have deserved for this season at least.

2 Rudy is such a quality human and player that i really hope he wins 2-3 titles and gets the recognition he deserves. Multiple picks that will most likely probably lead to a couple of players that are half as good as he is 5-10 years down the track doesnt' excite me at all.

3 The new version of Don sucks. When did he lose the joy ??

4 Anthony Edwards has the ability to explode into an elite elite player.

I believe we could have traded off DM for win now pieces and assets that could parlay into further roster balancing. We may have had less total talent but better distributed and moving away from some problematic mentality issue, not to pin all of it in Donovan, but a new coach, moving Don, then shuffling out a couple other guys would have made a big difference. We may not yield a single lottery pick from the Gobert deal. It sounds sexy because it’s 4 picks and a swap.

And IDK, I might lose interest in the Wolves very fast.

I was an ever bigger D-Will fan and I just couldnt get invested in the Nets even though I tried. A big reason for that was mostly due to D-WIll kind of falling off immediately, but also because I always thought his teammates were lame. I dont think the same will happen with Gobert so they should probably hold my interest longer.

It takes a while to scout a new coach's tendencies. I think the Jazz will start the season with a winning record for the first 20 games and then he will be scouted and will start to lose badly.

I wish all the best to Rudy and hope he got a ring. And unfortunatly, im pretty sure Minny will be good this year. Edwards is improving a lot and may become a top player in the coming years. Dlo is improving as well. KAT will remain KAT as Rudy, great players with limits. But they have a good group and i will not be surprised if they have a Memphis style season... which will not give us good picks,,,, some people here say they are not good and were lucky to beat Clippers ( less Khawi), that's partially true....others may say that they could have beat Memphis as they blow huge lead on 2 games....

I;m on the record for being high on Jaden McDaniels

When your team is willing to give up 2 more unprotected picks in a trade instead of you, that tells me your team is pretty confident in your talent/ability.

The Jazz never drafted well enough to get that guy even though they had the opportunity. They didnt need a million picks, they just needed to make the fairly obvious one (McDaniels or Bane over Udoka).

Lol I’ll take 2 unprotected 1sts over McDaniels all day. This dude isn’t anything special.

Athletic 6'9 wings who can do anything remotely good on the offensive end while providing man defense and weakside rim protection are the golden goose of the NBA. McDaniels has all that and he' 22 (almost) years old. Plus he's got creation upside.

If I was a team who didnt expect to be good for years to come, that trade might be tough. But if I'm a good team I dont think twice.

The Wolves are so overrated on here, play in team.

This might end up being true. I think the Wolves will be a good team and likely win around 48-50 games, but they may still end up being a play-in team because the west is just so loaded. The Warriors, Suns, Clippers, Grizzlies, Nuggets, and Mavs will all likely finish ahead of them.

Jaden McDaniels is the most talented defender Gobert has played with other than Derrick Favors, but Favors was already past his perimeter defending prime when he started next to Rudy
