Makes a deal hard to do but the extension may have been hard to do… I can’t see them seriously doing this to RJ but who knows.

The reported close deal was RJ/Fournier + 5 picks. Only 2 unprotected… then we asked for an extra unprotected and Grimes to be added.

You take Gay’s salary and send us Grimes or you take Gay’s salary and send us McBride with an extra unprotected 1st.

If Ainge has a certain value on UNPs, I don't think that'd be a difficult deal to beat.

With the Wizards the real value for me is with their picks. They owe the pick to NY if it falls top 14... so we get swap rights on the 2023 pick if it falls in the protected range (with the Philly or Minny pick). We get the same rights in 24, 25, 26 if the pick continues to fall in protected range and we get the 2028 pick unprotected. I'd add in swaps in 27/29 with the minny pick as well. So if they do tear it down and tank because Don wants out or they have an injury then we benefit.

If the pick conveys in 23 then we get the 25/27/29 picks unprotected and the swap rights disappear. They should give us every piece of draft capital we can get because of the pick they owe that complicates things. It'd be a tough one for fans to understand... "they either got 1 pick or 3 picks but if its 1 they get these swaps???"

We also get the prospects we want. I'm pretty meh on most.

I think the compromise could become Knicks give 5 picks... 3 unprotected 2 protected and all of Grimes/Obi/IQ or its 6 picks (3up and 3pp) and we route one of the pp picks to LA in the rumored Lakers deal so that we can get both unprotected picks they own.
