Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

So what's the simplest 3 teamer? This? Maybe a minor salary from LA to Utah.

Utah in - Westbrook/RJ/picks

LA in - Fournier/Bojan/Clarkson or Beasley

NY in - Mitchell

Or we could take Fournier and send another guy to LA - Conley?

This doesn’t work salary wise. I think we take Fournier back while sending Bogey and Beasley to the Lakers along with Reddish from the Knicks.

Who doesn't it work for salary wise?

NY - 28.9 million out, 30.3 million in

Utah - 65.4 million out, 73.2 million in

LA - 47.0 million out, 53.1 million in

But I can certainly see other minor variations like that.

Nah… you can have a feeling in your heart or gut… but the strongest feeling is in your balls… I’ve got a ball feeling about it.
You still might want to get that checked out. It could spread to a feeling in your anus or your dick or somewhere important.

Doesn’t the buyout amount change the trade salary though? How much salary the Jazz and LA take on depends on the negotiated buyout the Jazz pay to Westbrook.

We technically only have to send out 58.65M to take back RJ and Westbrook so you’re right. I think the bigger thing is the Lakers wouldn’t want Fournier’s long term salary and them adding 6M to their payroll is really like 20-25M to their tax bill.

No, it does affect the payroll this year though. Whatever number he’s bought out at is what counts against the cap.

I been with @Hearsky 's mom... I got all the creams powders and experience I need to know what is what. The docs at the STD unit call me for advice!

Some intel on RJ's deal... it is 4/107M but can grow to 4/120M if he makes the all-star team, all defense, or all-nba teams. Either he's a useful but inefficient two way wing making 27M a year (when the cap is growing to like 170M) or he is an all-star wing making $30M a year. I don't want to hear about it being a bad contract.

This gets said all the time, but $40 MM is a lot of money to just pay someone to go away. Does this mean that the going rate for an unprotected pick is $20MM and solid role players? I get it, no one would want him to play for us, but that's just a ton of money to pay someone not to play.
A 2027 unprotected pick is different than any random unprotected current pick

Especially with the uphill battle LA has. Lebron and AD won't be there or won't be what they are now... they have very little draft upside because of other deals. They might be signing Kyrie next offseason and being married to that circus. That pick has at least a 50% shot at being a lotto pick imo. Also just having the certainty of it conveying makes it a better trade asset as well.

Damn, that's a pretty nice deal.
