Lakers-Jazz Trade

Good, they can use that to sign more good players or save it til 24 to sign even more good players.

I'm not taking 4 years worth of *** for a late first.

Just give me Shamet and one pick. I'm ok with that.

I would take Robinson if it included Jovic + 2023 1st + a pick swap later on or for a 2028 or 2029 1st.

What do you mean? Isn’t his contract ****ing terrible?
Yeah, but simply freeing up 16 million dollars isn't changing anything about their ability to sign free agents anytime soon. They will probably look to dump him when he gets closer to his contract being expired.

This is not just a salary dump for them. They are getting a perfect fit for their team where they have a gaping hole after Tucker left. He is the perfect win-now piece for them.

They desperately need to get off his deal if they are bringing back Herro or Strus. They will be in mega tax next season and have generally never been in the tax... combined with the cruise industry getting destroyed right now I'm guessing a salary or player dump is coming for them in the next 12 months.

That Pat Bev trade was trash by us.
If our goal is to get space for next year and picks then I have no idea why we did that deal. The timing was also really weird.

Windy on the pod seemed like it was a 50/50 type proposition on whether or not they trade Westbrook. He was presenting the "maybe they will keep him" as a bit of a counterpoint. He started off saying the Westbrook Bev stuff was performative and he wasn't buying it.

Trust me if they keep that team together it will be a disaster... the first rough 5 game patch they have it will be super drama... go ahead and pivot on the fly during the season if you want... but it will be crazy tough to close space if you get off to a rough start.

I'm here for it either way... Lakers being a train wreck is really fun for me.

Then they will pay less to get off the last year of Lowry than what it takes to get off 4 years of Robinson.

This isn't strictly about Westbrook just being *** either; THEY HAVE LIKE NO OTHER NBA PLAYERS. I still struggle to understand why we gave them their 3rd in that deal, but Pat Bev ain't even a perfect fit with Russ there anyway.

If Russ suddenly is a lot better but still basically the same player, they are still trash.

He has two years left. When exactly are they going to do that? You do the deal now for expiring contracts THIS YEAR.
Yes, they will give out Lowry's contract this year for near equivalent money, pay that money, then get off the last year of his contract the following year (if they care about avoiding the LT that much like HH thinks). That's how it works.

Or they will deal Herro, the guy they dont even think is good enough to be a starter apparently. IDK, either one.

That worked out real well for the Knicks when they decided not to trade RJ Barrett but to extend him. Just enjoying the show. Can somebody pass the nilla wafers and fancy cheese?
I don’t even understand why the Knicks signed Brunson when they were intent on going after Don (other than the family/agent connections). They’re idea was to commit $60+ million to two 6-1 guards with Quickley on their roster whilst also paying Randle $25 million?

I honestly don't think the Knicks were intending to go after Don this offseason. I think they were thinking that he'd hit the market in a year or two and that's when they'd be able to pry him away from us. It wasn't until Gobert got traded that they realized that his availability may have come a lot sooner than expected.

So instead of trading Duncan they will trade Lowry this year? Their starting pg? And they will take back a worse player with an expiring contract? Or they will attach assets (like a first) to get an upgrade or expiring player of equivalent value. Seems like either way they lose a first... one way uses a guy they benched the other uses their starting pg. They could play the year out and then try to offload Lowry into someone's space next year... which would require someone to have 30M in space and that will cost them what? Some picks.

Maybe they let Herro and Strus walk. Seems like they'd be packing in the Jimmy Butler era and calling it quits no? They still end up near the tax in that scenario too.

They could just upgrade themselves with Bogey and replace a guy they don't want to play... seems like an easier way to reduce salary while being competitive.

Basically they can choose to offload some players/picks and balance the books, watch talent walk out the door, pay a **** ton of LT (something they didn't even do for Lebron).

Its cause Rose is a fraud... takes care of his dudes and it worked for one season. They have no plan.

The Suns will also be highly motivated to offload some salary next year given their LT issues and the fact that Cam Johnson is getting a raise. They may offload Ayton in the next 12 months. Sarver is cheap as hell.
