The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

I agree there needs to be a better coordinated effort to respond to the refugees and migrants at the border. I don't see how that gets done without massive funding.


What do you mean by "fix it"? Stop the flow of refugees from various criminals, by sending them back to the criminals?


I think it will be a day of the week that ends in a "y". I've heard these complaints my entire adult life.


Immigrants already move through the US. We've provided for them here in the St. Louis area. NYC has more immigrants than any 2 other US cities combined. Texas and Arizona don't have a single city in the top 10 of percentage of immigrants. Florida only has two in the top 10, and by far the largest percentage of them are Cuban (the immigrants we supposedly welcome), making up a third of the overall population.



In states overall, Florida is 4th in percent of immigrants (again, half are Cuban, or it would be 16th), Texas is 8th, and Arizona is 14th. They are not bearing a disproportionate share of dealing with the immigrant population. They're just whining about it.



Again, transferring is not dumping.
That's a nice play on words. When republicans do it, it's dumping. When Biden does it, it's transferring.

Certain states have a border problem that isn't just being ignored, it's being refuted. So they're bringing the problem to those who think everything is fine. Now maybe they'll admit there is a problem, which is the first step to fixing something.

When Republicans coordinate with the place to which the immigrants are being sent, it's transferring (and several Republican governors transfer instead of dump). When Democrats send them without such coordination, it's dumping (I haven't heard of this, but it could be occurring and I don't know it).

Certain states have a border problem that isn't just being ignored, it's being refuted.
Certain other states with a border problem aren't whining in the news every other day about it.

Who are the major politicians publicly saying (or have said in the past two years) there is no border problem?

So they're bringing the problem to those who think everything is fine.
Who, despite the complete lack of cooperation, are dealing w2ith it in a way the whiners hate.

Now maybe they'll admit there is a problem, which is the first step to fixing something.

What does "fix" the border mean?

Stop immigrants from coming here?
Stop refugees from requesting asylum?
Streamline the immigration process? Issue out more worker visas?
Militarize more/Demilitarize the border?
Build a wall?
Something else???

I think we need to agree first what it means when people say, "fix the border" since that can mean one thing to one person and something completely different to another.

How can one be concerned with human trafficking and not be appalled by what Abbott and DeSantis are doing?

Neither of these things are happening.

We want worker shortage right now due to inflation. When we have inflation, a method to combat it is for higher wages. If we have a huge pool of workers to choose from then business can keep wages low. Even right now our nations wage growth is raising at lower rate than inflation, which means most Americans are making less money now then from a year ago. Worker shortage gives workers an opportunity to negotiate better wages. So yes we want to discourage immigrants from coming here.


I hope we aren't letting white grievance lead our views here on "the border crisis."

the primary reason for inflation is disruption of the market due to labor shortages, to my understanding. Inject labor, less inflation.

I guarantee you that you won't see busload of Bosnian, Ukrainian, or any other European refugees shipped out on buses to other states.

For real though, it's incredibly frustrating how difficult the H2A program has been to work with recently while others can just walk over the border no problem. Getting penalized for doing things the legal way is sure incentive to continue as is.

He's just throwing mud at the wall in the dark hoping something sticks. He must’ve gotten up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday. Unfortunately, I think it’s more of a systemic issue among those who identify Republican.

In all reality, when was the last time a conservative or someone who identifies as Republican on here been able to debate things in a rational fact filled manner? It’s been quite a long time. Seems like every Republican on here has to resort to conspiracies, grievance, personal attacks, and whataboutism. It’s disheartening. But I guess that’s what happens when your party doesn’t have a platform outside of tax cuts for the rich, loyalty to Trump, and doing whatever to ownthelibs

If I recall, Maxine Waters of Florida told people to harass Trump's associates if they saw them in public.

I think there's a dangerous amount of violent rhetoric from both sides, and very little being done by anybody to curtail it. We need to be able to call a spade a spade if there's any hope of fixing this. Calling people who oppose you fascists or communists isn't going to do anything but build resentment, and I'm guilty of it too. We all need to do better.

What do you see as some of the talk from liberals that would have encouraged a man to hunt Kavanaugh down? Are we talking abut expressions of frustration, or atual discussion about tearing down the government? Is it coming from Congressional Representatives? Do you see an equivalent on the left (in terms of pushing fictional narratives) for Boebert, Greene, Hawley, etc.?

I'll admit to being far left enough that I could be missing some things, and every once in a while it's good to check my biases.
