Cool story… I actually think guys that play hard and don’t fall down for no damn reason should get the benefit of the doubt. T wasn’t just those calls though… sexton had Luka draped across him and horse collared hiM on a drive after he got one of his BS touch fouls. I felt it was uneven and was definitely a factor.
JV does get fouls calls. He gets a ton of favorable whistle when he goes for offensive rebounds and guys push him. That's where he uses his understanding of positioning and angles to his advantage. He just doesnt have that when the ball is in his hands.

Luka deserves most of the foul calls he gets. I know they are frustrating, but his use of positioning and angles is masterful. It's not like he just gets random calls. He's baiting guys into doing what he wants them to do and then punishes them.

Holy **** man… sexton was bad for
Most of the night but he didn’t make Lauri miss 4 threes… he actually set Lauri up really nicely at least once.

Lauri is like Hayward in some ways… he scores in the flow of the offense… the zone disrupted his flow as much as anyone on the team.

Not everything is Sextons fault… maybe we could look at box plus minus to find a weak link… maybe we could look at the season on/off splits and find a weak link… you want to go look it up… maybe if you discover it yourself you can believe it… like Kyrie doing his own research on YouTube.
Stats dont tell the whole story. THT is the defense individual defender on the team.

You could also look at PER. Funny how all the advanced stats are pointing towards one weak link.

Positive thing is that it was still team effort even it came little bit short in the end. My impression was that there was too much forcing in scoring situations from almost every guy. Backwards passes to second waves were not utilized properly, and generally whole passing game was somehow 'meh'. Towards to the end that began to appear also on a faces of guys, you know.

Anyway. Honorable loss as they never ceased to try.

Yeah but he was struggling before they implemented the zone too. Looked a step slow and even missed consecutive free throws.
Sir he only missed 1 FT all game. It was mostly the zone IMO. Also we went away from the rotations we were using when Gay/Kessler were out and that ruined our early game flow. Plus we played Sexton way too much instead of using our more diverse bench units.

I can’t refute your defender size point! I was actually hoping we could see more THT on Luka throughout the game. Luka did get a few inexplicable calls though. Like backing down Clarkson into his body Clarkson’s hands out and foul called on Clarkson!
THT played awful in his 14 minutes. Offense seemed to struggle with him on the floor and defense was just not there, didnt rebound AND had trouble boxing out Powel, Wood and Kleber.
Size is great but effort needs to be there.

Kidd’s a summabich with substitutions and adjustments, hard to beat that guy! Plus they have the Don, who gets Godfather-like respect from the refs!

I agree with you on this. Zone has the potential to break his rhythm, it's harder for him to cut on drives and he was cold from 3. Hardy has some work to do, because that's a simple counter to our best player

What happened to Lopo?
He got banned a couple times and it seems they have decided to not participate as Lopo anymore because they aren't banned now and aren't posting as Lopo.

ANd Im saying it broke our entire team. Not saying it was just a Lauri thing, but it threw the way we wanted to play off and we had to rely too much on Sexton's suspect playmaking.

So he’d get those if he didn’t flip and flail like he was shot… pretty amazing a guy with such amazing body control and size hits the deck so easily.

And I guess Vando getting popped in the face isn’t a foul until he learns how to control his body better… my bad.

Flipping and flailing just calls attention to what is happening.

And Vando got an And-1 for driving his elbow directly in Dwight Powell's face, so I really dont get the crying about the reffing. IT was extremely even.

I don't know man.. Sexton was a very active 19/3/3 and was trying to dig in against Doncic and even got 2 steals and at least one of them was against Luka. I can't blame the loss on him especially when he was typically on the floor with Clarkson and/or Conley. He had a few nice passes to Lauri too.

As far as Lauri is concerned this is the type of game where he needs to step up and demand the ball. He's been great this season but didn't seem as aggressive tonight. He kinda fell back into how he was playing last season with Cleveland where he would stand a bit too much in the corner. Can't blame Garland for not getting him the ball last season either.

Anyway I thought it was a very entertaining game. They will probably have quite a few of these games where we play hard but just don't have that #1 guy to get them over the finish line.

Most of Sexton's good game in the final 3 minutes when the Mavs were fine trading basket for basket if it meant not giving up 3's. Credit to Sexton for that. When he focuses on what he's good at he's a useful player. I just dont want 30 mpg of that play. He's more of a 20 MPG type player.

On the aggregate he is the rotation player that we perform worst with when he is on the court… stats don’t tell the whole story but that is a consistent theme all season… go ahead and ignore it if you’d like… it definitely says something.

There's been some games where we've had huge leads and he's taken some bad shots so it's tanked his advanced stats a bit, but when it comes to winning plays and elite defense he has done a wonderful job.

Meh.

The Mavs were 8/15 on FT's, the Jazz were 12/14. This isn't on the refs.

Dallas's defense is fierce, especially when Luka is on the bench. The Jazz and Suns in last year's playoffs struggled to crack it.
Free throws are not the only way refs influence games. Breaking momentum is just as damaging if not more.

Yes a couple bad shots are driving his poor “advanced stats”… good gawd man. He pops in garbage time buckets as much as anyone. He will make an eye popping play or two so you think he’s amazing, but he will make twice as many ****** plays or just miss shots. It’s like the guy in Rex league that makes two threes in a row but ends up 2/9 and everyone is like “good game shooter”.

The dunk or steal he got is cool and all but he also drove into three guys and turned it over or threw up a terrible layup… the fact is the net effect is overwhelmingly negative at this point… you can choose to be ignorant or you can actually evaluate the facts… your choice.
