Depends on how you define "best". If by best you mean the player that will likely be the most productive, likely have the highest PER and be the go-to guy, then of course it is Jefferson currently. You could argue that Millsap is in the running here, but going by stats, size, position, etc. you would have to give the nod to AJ.

If by best you mean potentially down the road could develop into the better player, then most likely it is not AJ, as he is mostly a known quantity at this point in his career. But in that regard Favors, Hayward, Burks all would likely have more potential, possibly even Millsap again. Whether they become the most productive player on the team or have the highest PER and all that Jazz (see what I did there?) still remains to be seen. Until one or more of them step up and knock Jefferson off that spot, obviously AJ is our best player.

We'll see, I doubt Millsap gets 30 minutes though. Which means he is essentially back to the role he had when Boozer was here, and that is both insulting and a demotion.

Not necessarily. Yes, Al had the slight edge in PER last season (20.1 v. 19.8...a lot closer than a lot of people realize), but basketball is a team sport, and Paul Millsap is far better than Al in just about everything that doesn't show up in a box score. Paul Millsap contributed more toward wins than Al Jefferson did last season. He was the Jazz's best player.

Like I said, you could argue it is Millsap.

Agree. Because there are only so many touches, a team will often have a token 5th starter for 5-8 mins who won't get any looks at the basket and is just there to play defense. Crawford, Ginobli, Metta and many others are better than the guys who start(ed) in front of them.

This was the lineup I foresaw at the beginning of camp. The only question, IMO was whether Millsap would get the nod at SF and push Hayward to SG. Now that Okur is gone, I think Millsap will see limited mins at SF. We have the same 3-man rotation as the trio that ended last year (Derrick, Al, Paul) with Enes initially getting the mins that Elson/Fes received. Hopefully Paul sees he can be more effective as a 6th-man. He should play just as many minutes and will take less pounding. At some point (probably not until next year), I'd like to see Favors and Millsap start with Enes off the bench, and a good, young player as the 4th big. But if Paul has to go instead of Jefferson, so be it.

Boozer played 35+ minutes a night. Favors still needs to learn not to foul so much plus I'm guessing he will play some at C. Millsap will play two positions, and play a bigger role then he did when he was playing behind Boozer. He is a bigger part of this team then he was earlier in his career.

I don't see him going back to just simply a role player, which is what he was when Boozer was hear.

do you find Ginobili's role on the Spurs insulting? Because that's the role Millsap has now.

Maybe he will play some tough defense with the reduced minutes. His defense at times last year was pretty horrid.

Personally I think Millsap is perfect for the back up PF position. He is a hustling tough player that will get the better of other back up PFs. He is also a stable hand on that second unit. I love Milsap as one of the first guys off the bench.
 
I see Sap putting up big numbers tonight, and playing the best of any Jazz player. i`m very worried about our guard positions, we could easily have the worst guards in the NBA.
 
So with the starting line set whats the rotation look like?

Pg: Harris, Watson,
Sg: Bell, Miles, Hayward, Burks
Sf: Hayward, Miles, Millsap Howard, Evans
Pf: Favors, Millsap, Evans
C: Jefferson, Favors, Kanter

That's probably about right, but Howard will likely get more SF minutes ahead of Miles.
BTW, we have a pretty strong bench with Watson, Miles, Howard, Millsap and Kanter. Those guys could probably compete with the Lakers starting 5 right now.
