Ya he would have been better for us off the bench I think. He got gassed playing huge minutes and trying to guard to many dudes in too many different positions. His best attribute was his high energy. Probably could have stayed high energy in a smaller role off the bench. Problem is that our defense was so bad that we needed someone in the starting lineup who at least gave effort on defense and Royce did that. I think he was/is a good defender but since he was our only defender on the perimeter he looked worse than he was as we had him defending players that he shouldn't have been asked to defend.I'll say it, 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assist in 33 minutes is terrible. I don't hate the guy but he was the worst full time starter in the league last year and from a basketball perspective we haven't missed him one bit. I'm happy to see him getting minutes but he's about a mediocre as it gets. Dude hasn't scored over 15 points since late November. His defense is all he's good for and he's slightly above average there.
Overall i agree with you though. He wasn't very good for an nba starter on a contending team. Thats the thing though. You and i think that but there will probably be a poster or posters who will call us stupid idiots and talk about how great he was. Its subjective.
The main thing though is that jazz fans in as a whole dont hate Royce Oneal.
