Collin Sexton SZN

Not sure what they showed on TV, but Dok was getting an earful as well. I think Hardy relies on Alex Jensen to work with Dok, but Hardy seems to have a bigger/better relationship with the guards. Last night, for example, he was constantly talking to THT/Clarkson/Sexton.

Have others that go to the games noticed this as well?
Yes, people just love to cry if someone is hard on their pet player.

Sexton definitely seems to push his buttons, but I think Hardy believes in him. Last night he kept running plays for him in the clutch, even after he had made some mistakes.

My point I was making was that just because he was yelling at Sexton instead of Dok doesn't necessarily mean he blamed him vs Dok. They both got an earful, it just seems like Hardy has a division of labor with his coaching staff.
I don't think Hardy sees any future in Dok, so why waste his breath?

Nah man you cant just look at stats, you have to watch the games. Then you see he gives a **** on defense, hustles and locks in every possession. But you cant just watch the games, you have to look at the results in the stats. But you cant just do one of those or the other, keep doing all of this until you ultimately decide he sucks and reinforce the bias you came in with.

It's pretty simple.
Lmao.

Yes, Sexton sucks on defense. It doesn't mean every game and every possession is bad. Anyone trying to argue otherwise is being obtuse.

Also defensive tracking for things like primary defender is wonky. Plus raw "player x had 5/10 shots made on him as the primary defender" doesn't really say anything about the quality of defense being played.

This was the expected response.

It looked like he yelled and clapped at Collin for the 8 second call. He goes at Sexton hard… which I get but needs some better balance. He does not seem to have as short a leash or temper with KO or JC when they make dumb mistakes.
It's not a punishment. Shouting at JC is shouting into the wind. He's 30 and will make the dumb mistakes he does, yelling or not.

Who yells at Hardy, guy is a rookie coach that has made many headscratchers this year. Acts like he is POP already, lets see him do something first.

He has only made the Jazz a playoff contender in a year where they were projected bottom 5 and the GM had to sabotage the team and that still might not be working to keep him from winning.

He's yelling at Sexton and Sexton is playing the best basketball of his career. His methods seem to be working.

I don’t think anyone thinks Sexton is a lockdown defender. The problem is people are making **** up while watching games saying he’s getting torched when he absolutely was not. I think they think if the opposing PG scores it means Sexton was guarding them or something? Or just look at the box score and assumed he was guarding them? Just super weird.

Same stuff used to happen with Gobert. There was one game Jokic scored like 49 or something on us and people were saying Gobert got torched when in fact it was Favors guarding him the majority of the time if I remember correctly.

It is extra weird to **** on a player randomly when he actually tries on defense when we had guys like Donovan not trying in the playoffs.

LOL you are whack as ****.

If players like Brunson and Haliburton are going 6/18 against someone who is trying on defense I think he must be doing something right. If the eye test matches the stats then I don’t know what to tell you.

I'm just saying the facts man.

For example: if a player takes a wide open 3 that was the result of player X messing up a rotation but player Y ended up being the closest player to the shooter, Player Y is going to get labeled as the primary defender and the make/miss will register to him. The defensive tracking stats are very flawed in that regard.

Its a balance thing... I get it but its really tough to go so hard at Collin and let JC roll without consequence. There are times when its warranted but it can also kill a players confidence and you may neuter their ability to just play.

Its just tough to see and hear him light up Sexton to move the ball with KO, JC, Gay dribble and ball stop a ton as well. A good dose of tough love is useful... constant tough love is just being an *******.

The trade value point is really important. I hope Hardy is not putting him to the doghouse anymore. If he is not the future PG in Hardy's eyes, then at least let him play high minutes and rack up stats so that he has trade appeal on the market.
If Sexton doesn't play well or do what the coach wants, he is going to get less minutes. If he does the stuff he wants, he will get more.

Sexton's energy and intent on getting to the rim with pace in the early 4th quarter helped separate the game, so he got play more. If he's stopping the ball in the halfcourt to take bad midrange pullups, missing defensive assignments, not getting back on D and not moving the ball, he's going to play less.

Which is correct but that could work both ways.

How about for the entire season?

165/362 for 45.6%. Good for 3rd lowest DFG% on the team behind Agbaji and Gay. Just ahead of THT and Lauri.

It’s just time to admit he’s not a bad defender.

I think Sextons defensive strength is his man defense. He's also been guarding backups for most of the season and generally gets easier assignments than the other guards.
