2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Hartenstein is huge... Not sure Filipowski is that big. Wood is crazy long and a great athlete... it showed in his block numbers in college.

I think people assume the shooting will be good because white guy with a long last name. If it doesn't come what is he?

I would have him in the 30s and wouldn't be worried about him making me look bad. Back to my original statement - He's the guy I hate in this draft... which means we will absolutely take him.

Filipowski is bigger than Ellenson, which is what I meant. And as far as the comparison to Wood, I wasn't really thinking about the shooting as much as his ability to put the ball on the floor and score. I guess what I'm saying is that he can be a pretty dynamic offensive big. Not a ton of example of NBA bigs who are more than a roll guy or spot up guy. I think it's within his potential to be 25% USG guy at the NBA, but that is in his best outcomes where he improves a lot as a shooter and at the rim. I like his handle and the way guys bounce off of him....but if he's not good enough those could end up just being useless skills in the NBA.

Earlier in the thread I said that I prefer him to GG as a big guy with skills, and a big part of that is because GG isn't really NBA big sized (only 6'10 wingspan)....but idk. GG is better at the rim and more promising from 3. Usually that would make me side with GG but I still prefer Filip because he plays a lot harder and has legitimate NBA size for a big....but I'll have to revisit that.

Appreciate it... when he turns out to be Henry Ellenson 2.0 I will go easy :)

I just think he's the exact type of tweener that struggles to make it in the league. Not good enough as a shooter to be a stretch big and can't protect the rim. He's a third big type imo and there is no way I'd have him over the 6 guys you listed 15-20... might have another 10 I'd prefer.
He's going to shoot.

@Handlogten's Heros Filipowski ranked 11th for me last time I did a board. Probably going to still be lottery on my post tourney board.

You think Black doesn’t project to be able to shoot the three?
I'm certainly not going to pull a one game sample and say "see he's a shooter". With Black I hope he can shoot it... he could develop it... but its like the only thing he really needs to be a high level perimeter player. If Flip shoots it then awesome... we found the next KO?

Saying a guy is a good shooter and could be a good shooter are different things. A guy shooting THT's percentage from 3 having one good shooting game proves nothing... there are times when THT goes 3/5 from three.

What is the Venn diagram of people who are certain Filipowski can shoot and people who think Walker Kessler will be a good 3 point shooter?

You are taking it so literal. Olynyk shot 33% from 3 in college. Donovan shot 33% from 3 in college. It happens.

Filipowski is a good free throw shooter as well. He had great form on his shot.

He doesn't shoot it well from 2 either. Look at KO's percentage from 2 in college. When someone says good shooter don't go 3/5 from 3 how am I supposed to take that...

Many guys improve their percentages... his FT shooting is fine but not like he's amazing.

What I'm saying is if he shoots it well (which he has not to this point) he's likely a limited 3rd big type... if he doesn't then he can join Ellenson in the G League. For me that's a bad bet in the lotto.

Not as bad as the Filipowski is a lotto talent takes. If he shoots it then awesome... he's still going to struggle to be a starting quality big.

What I've learned from this conversation is that I'm definitely not a Filipowski "fan". He's got some real fans and I am not one of them clearly. I guess where I differ from you (a self describer hater) is that I still think he can be a solid NBA player without a 3 ball, and if he does develop a 3 ball he's pretty good. I just think he has enough size, skill, and effort to make it.

But it is totally understandable to see a 28% 3 point shooter and wonder if that's going to translate. That is an ice cold take. Some people acting like you just said Voldemort lol. I would say the 54% at the rim is also fairly concerning and is what makes me consider dropping him.

Filipowski is averaging 21/12 with 1.2 BPG per 40… stop acting like he’s some bum. Absolutely disrespectful to say you’d take 30 guys over him.
Calm down fella... Tyler Zeller put up big college numbers too. He was a pretty mediocre nba player. Its a player type problem... not that he's a scrub.

His finishing definitely isn't great, but he also has a ton of defensive attention being a freshman star on a weaker Duke team. That's where you are really short changing him. This Duke team wouldn't even make the Tourney without him. He has carried them all season.

He's a guy where you have to take his high moments/games and project them out. He has a ton of talent and is more than just a shooter. He's only scratching the surface of his potential imo

Should we add the people that think Clowney can shoot to the diagram? I kid I kid.
