Alright... I've been labeled the #1 Ochai hater for simply saying "he might be pretty average and if we got a good offer we should consider moving him".

I thought I was number 1 until today. When none of yall voted for Player 5... which was Ochai. Yall hate him way more than me.

Here are the players:

1- Max Strus
2- Joe Harris
3- Coby White - same age as Ochai
4- Donte DiVincenzo - Number 1 vote getter
5- Ochai
6- Grayson Allen - Number 2 vote getter
7- Josh Richardson - Number 2 tie
8- Rookie year Norm Powell

I get it... he is a rookie and should improve... but is an older rookie and sometimes the things yall valued (rebs, steals, assists) aren't the things that improve a ton. It can happen but I wouldn't bank on it. I think Ochai will also improve... but the point of any potential trade would be to trade him on hype/momentum for something with higher upside. It needs to be a good deal... the equivalent of like a mid first round pick or moving up from 16 to 8 or 10... or from 9 to 5 or 6... but he is replaceable with very gettable players... if he improves by 10-15% I am not sure he fairs much better in this poll in a year.

If there is no value in a trade or if there isn't a better sg prospect that comes at 16 then of course continue down the road with Ochai and see if he pops.
the fact he was a rookie and didn't get any real playing time until January, matters a lot. and i'll be honest, for that type of player, the only thing i'm looking at is TS% - once that is about equal, i'll look at rebounding and assists and that's why he didn't get my vote - the TS% wasn't good enough to overcome the fact he didn't produce in rebounding and assisting. iow, if he can get more efficient i don't care much about those things for a SG. put playmakers around him, rebound as a team, if he can defend, get to the rim, improve his ability to create his own offense and shoot 40%+ from three he's an extremely valuable dude to have around. my gut, and this may be the point you're making, is that he will never be a star wing in the league.

And I hope this thread can be bumped later as much or more than @Saint Cy of JFC 's thread about Walker going to the G League... I hope I can be as wrong as Cy. I just think Ochai is more likely a pretty average sg.

I would argue this is a higher level of hating. My whole point was WK is good, but needs touches to develop his offensive game that can only happen in the G-Leauge.

Your take is that Ochai is as average as it gets and should trade ASAP

He's not talking to you anymore... since you said he sucks.
I'll live with it. Once an infection guy, always an infection guy. Kinda. Not always. Definitely not in some circumstances. He can decide where he wants to be.

The point is really that he's fine... but if you got a good offer you should consider it... if you had the chance to sign a good SG you should consider it... if there is a guy like Hawkins on the board at 16 (not likely) you should draft the eff out of him. If not you keep him around and develop him... but I have serious reservations about anointing him our starting SG next year based on what we saw this year. He was fine.

Ochai is a high level athlete with great length and a beautiful jumper and we got people who want to trade him cuz his stocks are a percentage point too low.

JazzFanz: *vote in poll based on facts that Ochai is meh*

HH: Ochai is fine, but he shouldn’t displace attempts at improving his position or the team in general.

Also JazzFanz: “UR A H8R.”

Literally not one stray vote landed on Ochai... and I didn't pick a list of world beaters. Wanted to have it be guys we could absolutely get if we wanted.

Since certain folks already had the belief I hate him... I wanted to give them something to point to... I'm a man of the people. Yall are welcome.

So when I said they all suck, does that make me the winner?

I will say that prior to HH having the stones to have an Ochai take that wasn’t boilerplate “OUR ROOKIE GONNA BE A STAR!” that Ochai just hasn’t really factored into my machinations for how to build a contender. Like, just doesn’t cross my mind.

Was it Thee that said that Ochai reminds him of Klay Thompson? I guess as long as we’re being homers, it’s fine to have weird opinions.

Basically. I think its harmless to keep him and continue to see how he develops... like I wouldn't trade him for a pick in the 20s. I would only consider it if there was value attached. My concerns are we let JC walk out of this desire to make Ochai a starter next year or that we pass on a prospect I think is better (or a FA) because Ochai must start. His numbers just don't justify it. If he improves this summer and takes a big leap forward... great then he should start or get a ton of playing time.

I more or less agree with this. I really like Ochai...I like his length, athleticism, and I think he will be a 40% 3 point shooter for most of his career. Having said that, I don't think he should be in the same category as Lauri and Walker just yet. I don't think he should be off the table in trade discussions, and I don't think he should prevent us from drafting a shooting guard should the best player available on the Jazz's board be a shooting guard when they pick.

I hope they keep him and he continues to develop and turns into a really good starting two guard, but I definitely don't think he should be considered untouchable by any means.

You can’t be serious. This is one of the worst threads made in awhile. Truly dirty work with zero context and extremely cherrypicked.
