2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I'm starting to think Cam Whitmore will go at #4 or #5, and the Jazz won't have a chance to get him. Then the question will be whether it's worth still trading up to #6 for Jarace Walker, or if the Jazz are better off staying at #9. It obviously depends on how high the Jazz are on Walker.

If we traded up to 6 and got Jarace instead of a Thompson twin or Cam I would lose it lmao.

I think if you draft Jarace Walker, the plan should be to play him in a role like Al Horford. He's a face-up big who plays out on the floor, moves the ball and makes enough of his shots. Another example might be Markieff Morris.
Ehh, I think you use him all over. Really experiment. You can play him at the 5 in small ball lineups with Lauri. You can play him at the 4 next to WK. You can play him with KO. You can play him with a bunch of guards. Just try things with him until you figure out what he actually is.

Maxwell Lewis is the next guy on my list of guys I've previously been lower on than the consensus, but will take a 2nd closer look at now that I've a pretty good big picture image of the draft in my head.

There isn't enough Maxwell Lewis conversation here tbh. So we will ignite it.

One of the reasons I have kind of kept Maxwell Lewis at bay was because of how bad his team was. I dont think that was really fair though, as it wouldnt have really mattered how good he was, Pepperdine was just flat out bad.

part of the reason his team was so bad, is that he was so bad. like he was one of the reasons they were bad. 41% FGs and 25% from three in WCC play. negative assist/to. WCC. WCC, not big ten or SEC. TS% was below the Elfrid Payton line - at pepperdine in the WCC. and he wasn't a freshman. dude just sucked.

pepperdine won 2 games total in WCC play. in one of the games lewis played a season low 22 minutes - scored 5 points on 2-5 shooting. iow, they basically won because he hardly played.

in the other game, they won in spite of him. he went 4-16 FGs for 12 points. maybe he was hurt or something down the stretch of the season. that would make me feel better about taking a guy, who when your favorite team played against his team, you wanted him in the game as and involved in the game as much as possible.

there is a reason maxwell lewis isn't talked about much. just the fact his name gets mentioned means he's talked about enough. probably more than enough.

He's a work in progress.

6'6.25 w/o shoes, 7' wingspan, 8'8.5 standing reach, 36.5'' max vertical.

Their entire rotation was comprised of Freshman/Sophomores w/ one senior off the bench. Lorenzo Romar is a noted terrible head coach (9-22 record, 2-16 record in the PAC-12 with Fultz and Thybulle./ 5-13 in PAC-12 with McDaniels/Stewart). There's enough context there to explain the roughness and be optimistic for the future. I ranked him 23 last time I did rankings, and IDK if I can really move him up much further, but I'm more intrigued than I remember.
