My bad the convo morphed... if it provides concerns into his ability as a shooter overall I get it a lot more than just not having a mid range game.
Cam’s playmaking/feel+tunnel vision is a real concern….but this mid range stuff…Honestly I don’t really care. He took 30 mid range shots total last year which is nothing. It’s not the same worry as a low amount of shots at the rim or from 3 because you don’t want him to take mid range shots.
His mid range game, or lack thereof, is a positive indicator for me because it means he’s able to get to the basket or extend to the 3 point line. If he couldn’t shoot 3’s at all that would be one thing, but he’s shown potential to take/make the more difficult shots which gives me belief he could hit mid range shots if he has to.
I’ve talked about how Dick’s shooting is crazy above the break and terrible from the corners. Given that the corner is the easier shot I’m not really concerned about that at the next level. If it were the other way around it might raise an eyebrow, but like Dick, Cam is on the right side of the equation.

Wait… what? How is a lack of mid-range game a positive indicator? You were the one saying people were making excuses for guys but that might be the best one yet. Bravo.

Shot distribution is zero sum. If he’s not shooting mid range shots it means he’s getting to the rim or shooting 3’s. I like guys who get to the rim and shoot a lot of 3’s.
It’s not an excuse that’s just basic math lol. I much prefer a player who can get efficient shots rather than player who has to rely on non efficient shots.
Whitmore was 22/80 on off the dribble shots overall (27.5%).
He wasn’t good from 3 though. It’s not like he was some elite 3-point shooter. A mid-range shot is more efficient than a 3. What are you even saying lmao?
Every elite scorer I just looked at shot significantly better from mid-range than 3. How is that a more efficient shot?
3’s are more efficient than mid range shots. Welcome to the 21st century.
Cam gets 88% of his shots from the rim or from the 3. That’s great, I love that. The only way that’s possible is if 12% of his shots come from the mid range. If you like the 88% you must also like the 12% that’s the only way this works.

i kind of hate bad mouthing cam whitmore because he has been my guy (along with b miller) since last spring - and i still want him to succeed perhaps more than anybody, but he is definitely getting the look good in an empty gym pre-draft bump. so big, so powerful, so explosive, so athletic - but put him in 5 on 5, the many warts rear their ugly head. but dude is so young, has so much upside - you are banking on marked improvements from him in terms of playing real basketball.

yep, despite unimpressive 3 point shooting numbers, mid-range, etc - his TS of 57% is pretty good. shows he's taking efficient shots, especially when you consider he really didn't get to the line all that often (which, tbh, is a bit of a problem for a guy of his physical profile).
