Yeah, the real question in him is the playmaking/feel. Can’t test that in an empty gym….but maybe he does well when watching film?

He’s flawed but I like him. Not super sold on the other guys we could trade up for.
 
I just think a mid-range game is just indicative of skill and potential. If you are complete *** in the mid-range, it can show a lack of feel and I think that's teh case for Cam.

Now you can make the argument that being a hyper athletic bowling ball, Cam hasnt' had the need to develop this kind of feel and it will eventually happen w/ good coaching at the NBA level, and that's a fine bet to make with someone who has his tools, but it's an archetype that has produced many a bust in the top 10.

Cam gets 88% of his shots from the rim or from the 3. That’s great, I love that. The only way that’s possible is if 12% of his shots come from the mid range. If you like the 88% you must also like the 12% that’s the only way this works.

I don’t think efficient is the right word for that which is why I was confused. It’s the smarter shot.
 
Also there is a wide variety of shot types and shot quality in the mid-range and they all get lumped in together when the mid-range haters show their faces about how players shouldnt be shooting them.
 
The only reason I really care about mid range shooting on a prospect is because the percentage they make there can be a positive indicator they are a good shooter overall. So someone like Cason who shoots well in the midrange may have shot below his 3pt potential in the small college sample size.

I think it’s mostly the opposite. Being a major paint and shooting threat opens up the mid-range to be something the defense sacrifices. But sure, when teams start really keying on guys in the mid-range it opens up other possibilities on the floor.

Nobody is saying the mid-range doesn’t have a place. It’s key at the highest levels. We are not close to that level currently, and we’re most certainly not drafting a player where our chief concern is if they’re a playoffs ready star in year one.
