3&D forwards just don’t become stars. Why do you think cam could be a star but not hendricks? cam basically was worse at everything. He has more injury issues, played less games, less minutes per game, scored less, rebounded less, shot worse, has attitude issues etc. But is more likely to be a star? Why?
Lauri is like, huh?3&D forwards just don’t become stars.
Who said you could steal my line??you're an idiot.
Lauri was on his way to being an allstar till the coach decided to change his role. Lauri was door Ced to play that role. He just is more skilled than Hendricks.Lauri is like, huh?
What does door ced mean? Forced? How do you know Hendricks wasn't forced to play that role?Lauri was on his way to being an allstar till the coach decided to change his role. Lauri was door Ced to play that role. He just is more skilled than Hendricks.
Or fully realized Keynote...If you add Ochai to the lineup, that’s 4 guys who are not ball in hand players. You need Luka or you’re screwed lol.
And let’s not forget Lauri wasn’t the Lauri we saw last year until he got into the right situation with the right coach. It’s not like Lauri is this perennial all star. It took him 6 years and the right situation to break out. Iow, whatever happens with Hendricks, we need to be patient. What does door ced mean? Forced? How do you know Hendricks wasn't forced to play that role?
Was Lauri on his way to being an all star coming out of college?
What was Lauri's role in college like? Its funny cause his freshman year of college stats are almost identical to Hendricks. Its eerie really. hendricks averaged 15 point per game. So did Lauri. hendricks averaged 7 rebounds per game. So did lauri. Both shot around 50% from the field and 40% from 3. Hendricks attempted 11 field goals per game. Lauri attempted 10 per game. Hendricks attempted 4.6 threes per game. Lauri attempted 4.4 threes per game. Lauri averaged 0.9 assists per game. hendricks 1.4 assists per game. 2.0 fouls per game for both. Both about the same amount of turnovers. 1.7 blocks per game for hendricks and 0.5 for Lauri. 0.9 steals per game for Hendricks and 0.4 steals per game for lauri.
Pretty crazy how similar they are coming out of college. We now know that Lauri has become a star after that college career. Hendricks college career is basically the same (but better defensively) and you know he cant become a star. Kinda silly tbh.
Apparently, if we would have drafted Lauri Markennan this year at pick 9 you would have gave us an F grade and be telling us he cant ever be a star lol.
Mostly agree with everything here. The thing I will add is - one reason you can imagine him developing some on ball game is the fact that his off-ball skills and defense will likely allow him to play early and with play come opportunities for growth, plus he was drafted high enough that the Jazz will likely be willing to entertain developing some face up moves for him. The other reason for slivers of optimism about his on ball game is the growth he showed this season at UCF. He was ranked out of the top 50 by all of the top recruiting services and was not considered a one and done prospect by anyone and without even having premier coaching at UCF he ended up a top 10 pick. In his film there are flashes of on ball self creation, there is one where he beats everyone's favorite defender Jarace Walker off the dribble and yams it on him. Now they are few and far between but I can see a path to him developing that part of his game... And this will be directly connected to another part of his game where I expect some development - pull up game. Maybe initially nothing fancy - side steps or simple step backs to avoid close outs or punish devense sagging off him.I’ve been beating the drum that we don’t really understand “potential” during this draft cycle. I get what people see with Hendricks. He has a really nice looking shot and regularly shows incredibly fears of athleticism on defense and transition. It’s not just the highlight plays. Even in normal defensive rotation you can tell he’s just a level up from everyone else.
Having said that….it is kind of hard to imagine him being a star when watching him. It’s a stark contrast to Keyonte and Brice. Those guys are the centerpiece of their team’s offensive game plan. Hendricks will go long stretches a time where he’s mostly standing around and never touches the ball.
There’s still a chance he can develop the on ball stuff. Mikal Bridges wasn’t much of anything in terms of being a creator and it seems as though he’s turning the corner after several years of progress…but when a guy is barely touching the ball at UCF it does make it much harder to imagine him becoming that guy.
Meant to type forced. What does door ced mean? Forced? How do you know Hendricks wasn't forced to play that role?
Listen to what most of the draft experts were saying about him. Luck up Charles Barkley comments on Lauri Markkanen in college on YouTube. He was a special talent who was obviously super skilled. Put Markkanen on Hendricks team and his stats are way better most likely. Put Hendricks on that Arizona team and his stats most likely aren’t as good. He wouldn’t have been the best player on the roster Markkanen was on.Was Lauri on his way to being an all star coming out of college?
Actually if you take a deeper dive into the stats Markkanen looks like the much more affective player by miles. What was Lauri's role in college like? No, he’s way more skilled. You are smarter than this fish. Love ya as a poster but in this manner it feels like you’re grasping at straws here. You aren’t looking at this rationally because you so badly want him to be great. He is what he is a 3@D player. I’m not hating, but at 9 he was the wrong pick. Personally I would’ve preferred the jazz pick Kobe Bufkin. Then maybe we would’ve picked cam 16Apparently, if we would have drafted Lauri Markennan this year at pick 9 you would have gave us an F grade and be telling us he cant ever be a star lol.
