Dame Time

I mean Lauri is a near 7' who just averaged 26 ppg and made the ASG. Murray still hasnt been an All-Star.

Ranking Murray in general is very tough because I think everyone recognizes he is as good as he is because of Jokic, but he also is probably held back by Jokic in the raw numbers department. So it's kind of a weird dynamic, but if I was starting a team, I'd take Lauri over Murray 10/10 times.
I think we are giving Jokic too much credit for Murray's play. I also believe that Murray was headed for superstar status before the injury. We all remember the bubble and how well he played. I do agree that he is hard to rank but this past playoffs he dominated while be gamed played against and double teamed. We should expect nothing but Superstar ascendance for Murray. Lauri just isn't there.

Murray has a higher ceiling then Lauri. So for me i'll go with the Superstar potential 10/10, Murray's has a little Mamba in him.

Back to the thread topic I'm torn on if Dame is the player to give us to that championship level. Some of the arguments are compelling.

no all-star games

None FA wants to play here. Nobody wants to deal with us, either, we have ton of assets, and couldn't land a semi star Player. Are We really disguss here any Dame to US trade,? It's a joke,
Olynyks are the players what We can ask for. And We must gave up Bogdanovics.

Murray is certainly way ahead of Laurie at this juncture in time but I’m not so sure about the ceiling part. No question right now, Murray is just more diversified and frankly more clutch. Physically, I would say that Murray has found his ceiling and Laurie has not. Will Laurie ever find that dog that Murray has within, that’s the bigger question.

PS Got excited in the draft when George got compared to Murray.

I was just making sure to throw that out there. The Miami offer will have to be beat by a fair margin to be the winning bid.

Herro, 2 picks, 2 swaps (not a ton of value), Jacquez, Lowry for Dame and Nurkic. Lets say Portland routes Jacquez and Herro to Brooklyn for Ben Simmons and just one suns pick.

To me it means we'd have to put Sexton, KO, THT, 3 firsts for Dame just to "match"... then does Hendricks or another first close it. To me that is likely the offer that is the winning bid that Portland says "eff it... we will piss Dame off".

If Herro just can't be recycled for a pick even if they take back ****** salary... then we might get away with the Sexton/KO/THT plus 3 firsts... IDK its a significant cost... so I'm only doing it if he begrudgingly decides its fine.
And if you're right, I'm probably out.

I just dont think it's a foregone conclusion what you are saying, but you are probably closer with what you're saying.

I know we fantasize about Giannis/Luka, but the odds of us being able to land them is so slim. IF we do get them, it's probably going to be with 1 or 2 years left on their deal and it will be a huge question mark if they would re-sign.

At least with Lillard you get him for 4 years. He's coming off a career year stats wise. He might not have 4 elite years left, but I think he has 4 good years left.
I’m not advocating one way or another, but I do want to point out that the circumstances for getting Damian Lillard are really similar to when the Celtics traded for Ray Allen. DA has always been a big-game hunter and it wouldn’t shock me to see him make a move for Lillard right now.

If we get Dame, our ability to get another “dude” goes exponentially up.
Depends on what qualifies as a "dude" cuz that hasn't quite worked in Portland. I think it helps you recruit some "guys" but a "dude" well maybe not.

I do think people have a hard time when considering moves that don't make us an instant favorite or don't have like a 5 year window. If we did land Dame... the next few steps could be easier.

Dame's feelings will be considered... either by the acquirer in how much they offer or by Portland in how much they will accept. It won't be this cold calculated deal where they can get an extra nickel some place and eff how he feels about it.
If the Jazz acquire him, they'll make sure he is okay with being here. Miami has already said they will only honor the trade to Miami if it is the best offer, as they should.

I have my doubts on if Dame can be the best player on a title team… his game may have some limitations at the highest levels… I think some of the stink in Portland obviously is his part. I just think we will have a hard time trading for any star… so if he’s willing to come here then I think we should see what the cost is and do all the due diligence.
One thing that is pretty important and no one seems to want to acknowledge is that Lillard has never been a floor raiser in the playoffs. He has had a few really good series but he has had a lot more where he has struggled. He still puts up pretty good numbers in those series but on poor efficiency.

Why would Portland say anything other than that? Especially publicly. I'm telling you guys if we offer 3 firsts of equal value and Miami offers 3 firsts of equal value... Dame will go to Miami. It will take more than just a few second rounders to tip the scales our way. The relationships matter here... regardless of what GMs say in the media.
