Sound logic, I just really hate the conclusion. Hendricks is the 'prize' of last seasons toils. A top 10 pick. The Jazz are not some top 5 team who can't afford to play a rookie real minutes because they are trying to contend. They are much closer to the opposite in fact. There is a long career ahead, but I don't know how you can spin a top 10 pick, on a rebuilding/retooling/seeing what they have team, not being in the rotation whatsoever as anything more than a bummer. Especially when his predraft calling cards were NBA ready skills.

Does pre draft HH think Hendricks won't even be able to crack the rotation his first season with this Jazz team? Or is that opinion more recent?

I also think this is the danger when you half *** the tank. Cost to move up was too high or impossible and you end up playing the hand you are dealt. An early Conley Bogey deal for the Lakers where we only get one pick (rumor was we wanted both) and you don’t have KO and maybe Vando as well… leaves a hole where you are drafting a few spots higher… shrug.

Hendricks is looking fine. Has a chance to be a solid piece for us a few years from now (if he stays).

He is still 19, so essentially barely out of puberty (based on acne as well).

Remember to measure his mental intangibles such as confidence and maturity on the correct scale.

Correct... the difference between making the decision earlier than later costs us 5 games or 6 games maybe. That 10-3 start goes to 6-7 and you are right there with Portland. The cost to move up is likely multiple picks... so that is the cost of non-commitment. There are some that say you can always tank... that decision gets harder the longer you put it off. At this point I am anti-tank for the year... the prize isn't as big and it will be difficult with Lauri leveled up and Year 2 Walker. Plus the depth we have added. There were some positives with not tanking earlier/harder.

Taylor is going to be fine though. You don't get to have your first pick if you don't put in the work to tank and you aren't willing to pay a huge premium to move up... sorry.

Man I don't know if it is the "on demand" generation or what but it feels like folks were writing off Taylor or throwing up all sorts of red flags before his first preseason game. I'm seeing a bit more of this on twitter but getting the vibe here as well. So here is what we need to do... Chill the eff out.

Dude missed summer league. We have a loaded frontcourt, so we don't NEED anything from him this year. I understand its pre-season and guys like Tech and Luka are playing over him... but its like some of yall don't know how preseason works. One of the big things in pre-season is giving guys on the bubble a chance to show something before they are cut or benched. There is more urgency to see if Tech and Luka are worth rostering. We are playing the long game with Taylor.

So let's just not write the kid off after like 10 preseason minutes. He is going to be fine. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.

I agree. But this is very unlike you to think this way/post this way. You are captain of the overreact to every small detail. Also this post probably needs a cool guitar rip after the second sentence.

So in this scenario where we committed more fully to the tank and get say, pick #7. You still taking Hendricks now? Or is it someone else?

I overreact to trades and such... don't think I overreact on players in a super small sample size. Was happy when Jared Bulter smashed in pre-season, but was already a huge fan of his.

If the Jazz were to be trusted they had Hendricks 9 on their big board so they would have gone with someone else if one of the top 8 dropped.

Yes, which was shocking that they said that then, and still surprising now. I wasn't actually scouting anything, so when I got on the Bilal train before the draft, there was a good chance I was just being stupid. Jazz confirming that they felt the same way was a pretty big deal, honestly. Which is why I'm very curious to know how HH and other Hendricks fans from before the draft are feeling now.

I probably had him right there on my draft board. Was not a believe in Bilal (at least not to that extent) and was higher on Taylor than Jarace... though it was closer to 50/50. Based on summer league and early pre-season I'd put Walker above him.

I think Hendricks is a solid prize for a half *** tank but I had my eyes on Wemby, Scoot, Miller, a Thompson or Anthony Black. A full *** tank would land us higher than 7 imo. So the diff between 7 and 9 isn't monumental to me. Jarace could make that a problem. We easily could have landed 6... which also gives you a much better shot at top 4. So its a meh prize for a tank season... but I'm also not one of the dudes bitching about him not playing after 2 preseason games.

Cason is another guy I loved... if I knew we were getting Collins I might go that route. I would have Taylor still firmly in the top 10 though it sucks we haven't been able to see him more (mostly in summer league).
