The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

SA doesn’t have a PG. they have to work on every possession to get pts. If they score with a dynamic PG in the draft/free agency, someone who can manufacture easy pts for their scorers, they’ll be fine. I actually wonder if after going a few years with positionless basketball if the NBA might return to more traditional PGs soon? We’ve all seen how Key has made this team better. I wonder if naturally the NBA will start looking for the next cp3, Dwill, etc? I guess a lot of it depends on the prospects coming up

Solid performance from Mike and Rudy with Minny. This team really look good. Not the best offense but they defend really good. Hope Mike and Rudy go far this year.

Wemby's midrange and 3 point shooting numbers are so bad I decided to do an eyeball quality assessment by running the video on all his 3 point attempts.
  • He has 21 makes in 74 attempts for an accuracy of 26.9%, with 77% of them being open or wide open.
  • He had 5 swishes and 16 makes that rimmed in.
  • He also had 15 bricks and 5 airballs.
  • I didnt count the hard bounces off the back iron which I think was the most common type of miss he had.
  • None of his shots were blocked (surprise!).
He is just simply a bad distance shooter at this point in his career. Vast majority of his misses are not close. This seems to be pretty much in line with his last two seasons in the french league (shot 26% in 2021-22 and 27.5% in 2022-23).

Yet everytime he makes a shot the announcers go berserk (regardless of whose announcers you listen to).

He is a bad 3 point shooter. But people got exciting because he is big and make some . Ridiculous for me. KAT is big and shoot 3 well , a lot of big shoot 3 in the NBA. Wemby got fabulous skills, blocks rebounding, move well but on my opinion will remain a 28-32% range 3 shooting guy. Nothing to get exciting.

He's not a bad shooter, he just has bad **** selection

I literally broke down his 3P shooting tape, and posted details in the previous post. He has almost as many airballs and bricks combined than makes, and his long misses are mostly hard clanks as well. 77% open or wide open shots (and even those 17 that werent open, were open to him)

And its not just his 3P shot. His jumpshots (from anywhere) are 46/146 (31.3%). He is even 36.4% from the paint if you exclude restricted area. His dunks and alley oops are literally saving his FG% from being one of the worst of this rookie class... and with his size and shooting volumes its pretty clear evidence.

YEah, I stand by what I said.

77% of his 3 point attempts are open or wide open. Thats a good shot in todays nba i thought.

Plus he is 11/47 (23%) on jump shot 3s where his feet are set, according to Second Spectrum stats.

Actually his pullups are helping his numbers, since he is for whatever reason 8/14 in (non-running) pullup 3s.

Care to provide some evidence to back your statement?
There's more to shot selection than the basic data you have available. There's rhythm, time/score, etc.

Obviously he is not a great shooter, but if he was more selective about the shots he took and when he took them, he would shoot better. He is not a 27% shooter.

You know how sometimes players have trouble with wide-open shots and do better with at least a little pressure? At 7'4" Victor better get used to not having a hand in his face. He could also stand to take shots from closer to the 3-pt line.

I agree. He has good mechanics. He'll get better. I think he's tired, can't be easy at his age and with his body suddenly playing 30 every other night.

Sounds like we all agree. You, cy, herman, and myself all agree that he is a bad shooter right now but has good mechanics and will likely get better (though the fact that he was also a bad shooter prior to NBA could mean he just isn't going to be a good shooter)

Good God shut up.

Are you on crack?
You said he isn't a good shooter right now.
Straightline says he agrees with you and you give him a thumbs up.
I say herman and I also agree with you and I get insulted.
Yep, must be the crack

That's not what I said. Please stop trying to simply everything down to a first grade reading level.
