Trade ideas

I would love this deal... If DA thinks there are better 1st round picks to take than the OKC picks.

Yeah, I mean this would be it if you had to do it, but mehhhhhh.

I just dont care about having that many more picks at this point.

I'd like a blue chip young talent who could one day be near Lauri's current level. Not sure the Jazz currently have it and I dont think this trade has it either.

If they have in mind that we want to renegotiate+extend Lauri, we can't really make any trades that bring back future salary. Makes dealing KO, THT, and even Clarkson to some extent more difficult. I hope they have a good pulse on how Lauri's feeling about resigning with and without renegotiate+extend.
Yes we can. As it stands now, we are at $96,6 million in salary for next season. The cap is projected to be at $142 million, but could also rise to $150 million if the cap rises 10%. To get Lauri to his 30% max for 2025-2026 and future years, we will have to bump his salary for next season with $12,4 million if the cap is $142 million and with $14 million if it is $150 million. This bump will give him those amounts in extra salary for next season and make it possible to extend him to his max with a 40% raise for the first season after his contract would expire.

In the $142 million cap scenario, we would be $33 million under the cap after a renegotiaton and extend. in the $150 million scenario, we would be $39 million under.

There will be cap holds that will eat a bit into these numbers, but not by much. We can easily take back salary in trades this year, but I can`t see many scenarios where we take back significant long term salary. None of the trade candidates will give us much except for Lauri and the only way we would need to take back bad salary, would be for more picks. We have enough picks and if the Jazz decide to keep Markkanen, it is to get back to being good pretty fast. In this scenario, there will be no place for bad salaries.

Just get rid of Clarkson for a 2030 second at this point I don’t care I just want him off the team he’s an awesome dude but he makes us so much worse and it’s hard to watch

Can't think of many trades as lopsided as this one. For the record, the best FRP out of the five is probably our own pick. That's how pathetic this package is.

To get Lauri, OKC will need to give us all the Clippers picks they own just for starters. Then they need to include Giddey at the very minimum, or JDub if they want to save some of their picks. I wouldn't even want Giddey because OKC will probably have to let him go next year anyways and we don't want to give them the easy way out. Many think JDub would be off the table but just as many weren't expecting the Kings to trade Haliburton, to get something good you would have to give something good in return.

Both Clippers picks AND the Rockets 2024 / 2025 picks is a must. Or they can guarantee the lowest of their 2024, 2025, 2026, and add a couple more pieces. I mean pick swaps could be really good since we have several picks in each draft. Our worst for their best swaps. J Williams seems like a solid conversation starter if they don't want to give us all of their best picks.

I am definitely against trading Lauri, and I get the concept of "well we don't want to trade him so you have to absolutely blow us away", but that is a fantastic haul for him. Yeah, the Clips picks are nice but cmon. Cason is absolutely a blue chip prospect in my mind, the 2024 Rockets pick is more likely than not to be lottery, getting our own pick back would be massive, Dieng is an interesting young stretch-4, unprotected picks 5-6 years out are always valuable (even if OKC is primed to be a juggernaut, **** can definitely happen), I wouldn't have to watch THT anymore.

Still against trading Lauri, but that trade seems to be a massive haul beyond what I think we can expect.

Jazz salaries are at $99.3 with 10 players. Cap holds for empty roster spots brings this up to about $102. A max renegotiation and extend would bring Lauri's number up to 30% of $142, which is $42.6. That is an increase of about $24.5. That brings our total to ~$126.5M. Cap space under a $142M cap would be about $15.5M....which is admittedly more than I thought. So in theory the Jazz could bring that amount of incoming salary and still renegotiate and extend Lauri.

It still sucks to have John Collins $26.5M on the books though. We could renegotiate and extend Lauri and still have max cap space after.

Oh if we only had Rudy Gay back.

We likely have a top ten pick as a caphold… May want to keep Simone so that would be another cap hold. Could likely retain him with an exception if we wanted. We don’t need to take Lauri up to the max next year. Can give him about 15M more next year and then increase up to 140% to get him to the max the following year. He gets an extra 15M a year early and gets the long term security of the max.

Yeah...and the $15.5 is without KO and THT as well. With Collins on the books, we are in a great financial position to....bring back the same team : (

We don`t need to max out Lauri for next year. The key is to be able to give him a salary that allows him to get the 30% max on the extension years. The $12-$15 million he will get extra next year is free money that he won`t get if he sees out his current contract.

Apparently Hawks have made every player except Trae Young and Jalen Johnson available for trade talks.

People focus on Murray a lot, but I would be intrigued by AJ Griffin Jr who showed great flashes in his rookie year but somehow hasnt found Quins favor and has been riding the deep end of the pine all year.
