What's new

Comparable rookie years to Keyonte's. (I thought I had linked just the PER 36 min section of each player) Just look at the rookie year Per 36 min

It all comes down to how badly Key wants to get better. It is how hard he will work in the offseason. Honestly, imo, that is what makes good players great. Sacrificing play time for work time.
Good news is all reports is that he is a gym rat that eats, sleeps, and breathes basketball.

That's awesome. He's going to be really good then. He's already showed so much to like it's crazy. Mike Conley will be a UFA this summer at the age of 37, maybe we should bring him back to mentor Keyonte.

That can be dangerous with his talent. I would like to see his 3p% go up. I would also like to see him take a step up in leadership but that is not as easily developed.

I like his future.

If Kessler and Keyonte can keep improving and we get another great player to go with Lauri we are a dangerous team.
This is what I kept saying around the trade deadline. Yes, part of trading the three rotation players was opening up the rotation for rookie development instead of playing vets without a future role on this team during our eventual contending window. With the new aprons and cap, you basically have your choice of 3 star players and weak-sauce replacement players or 2 star players and significant depth.

It's clear that what Ainge is trying to build here - and what he tried to build in his last go at Boston (as well as what GSW tried unsuccessfully to do and the Spurs successfully did in the Duncan years) - is the Holy Grail of GM-ing: a two-window contender.

The plan, in so far as I see it, is to pair Lauri with another superstar acquired via picks (Luka, Giannis) and surround them with young, cheap, but potentially future star talent. Lauri and the superstar play the Kyrie and Hayward role that was intended in Boston pre-injury/psychosis, surrounded by Keyonte, Taylor and whoever we land in '24 and '25. We begin making a concerted push in 26 with a window 28-30, then reconfigure as Lauri + superstar age out to focus on a new core led by Keyonte+whoever of the youngsters are popping off.

Now we need infections combo player machine. Rookie Exum's defense and Rookie Keyonte's offense.

Although I think Keyonte's defense is improving and will make a jump when he gets some actual strength.
