It really comes down to Sloan's perception of Matthews' potential for improvement. Sloan handed the guy a LOT of different responsibilities on the court last season, all of which the kid embraced and improved at very quickly. If the Jazz believe in this guy, and I think they do, they'll re-sign him. Simple as that.
With AK's contract up next year, we can live with another "poison pill" from Portland for a year. So I say AK walks after next year, and Evans from this draft, who's starting to impress, takes his spot in the rotation. Then we may well let Okur walk the following year. That depends on Fes and Koufos. And, Tomic, the 7'2" European, should be ready for NBA action by then. We'll be young, but the talent level is there. I know it's only "Potential" right now...
The big question is will DWill have the patience to work with it, or give in to the "Instant Gratification" bug that afflicts so many?
