The refs were cowards

But to be very honest Favors threw the ball into stands with excessive force risking injury to fans - so going by the official rules it was deserved ejection. Not so sure about Dirk, yes he slapped the ball out of Favors hands but that was after the whistle and Favors was kind of delaying game, not sure it really should have been a technical.

They called a T on Watson for slapping the ball from Dirk. Just sayin

True, but Mavs had possession and Dirk was about to inbound the ball. Small difference but quite important.
AKMVP just shows he doesn't get it. Dirk slaps the ball, no T called. Earl slaps the ball, T called. Dirk wasn't "about to inbound the ball". He couldn't do that until the ref was done reporting the foul and had administered the ball to him. It was the epitome of superstar treatment. That ref should be fined for this kind of crap.
Was that the same ref who tossed Favors?

The refs weren't that bad on that one play, there were a number of other plays where the refs hurt the Jazz much more.
Just a couple examples...
Kantor was fouled on his putback, no call, that killed them.
Bell's getting in Marion's face resulted in a bad call that killed them, but there was no reason for Bell to get in Marion's face.

I love the energy, but they need to focus that energy on the game. Don't give the refs the opportunity to decide things with judgement calls. Just stop making fouls. Fouls make you lose. Get open shots and make them, that's all.

It was great that the Jazz did make a lot of steals by going after the ball, not slapping or bodying people. They are improving greatly.

Dirk just slapped the ball casually. Watson went ballistic, running over, angrily forcing the issue, slapping with too much anger and force. The emotion is good , it helps his play, but please keep it focused on the game, not overreacting to a minor thing in such a way.

I didn't think favors threw the ball that hard to warrant being thrown out, but i could be wrong, only saw it once. He needs to focus on doing things in a way that don't give the refs the chance to call him for little things he does wrong.

I loved the effort and hopefully they learn from this loss.

And that's where I thought we lost the game. I didn't see the hustle, the hard cuts, the screens, and the teamwork. For most of the night it was pretty lethargic compared to the last 3 games.

Dirk's slap wasn't casual and was completely unnecessary. The ref was still giving the scoring table information about the last play (offensive foul on Favors) when Dirk aggressively slapped the ball out of Derrick's hands. He was not holding up the play. As Catratcho pointed out, he couldn't have inbounded the ball until the ref came over, grabbed the ball, and gave it to the inbounder.

BOTH should have been T'd up.

he got in his face

Darn (in deference to your station in life ) straight Prof. I am not one of those people who are always howling about getting respect and people dis-respecting one's personal greatness/coolness/space or whatever. But when someone shows up a young player in the manner Dirk did then someone needs to step up and state clearly that as a team we will not tolerate this. That's what Earl did. If Kobe was doing exactly what Favors was doing would Dirk slap the ball out of his hands. No way in Hades. It wasn't just needed it was required and Earl's rep went way up in my estimation. Favors got the message and maybe was embarrassed that someone else had to stand up for him leading to some over-emotionalism. He will learn from this lesson and that was what it was, a lesson. A lesson from Earl to Derrick and the other young guys. Stand tall and stand proud and don't back down.

Not really on topic but just wanted a place to rant. What I find irritating most games it seems the Jazz get called for at least one travel, I don't always see them but then I'm not looking for them but then I see the other team travel and it rarely if ever gets called.

*edit, I agree with Grandpa I was extatic that Earl came over and stood up for his young player and set a presidence. I also think Favors got the message which lead to his emotional reaction of tossing the ball and getting tossed*

It's such a minor thing.... no reason to lose control over it... it's a little game pros care about, slapping the ball out of someone's hands after the play is over, such a big deal over nothing...

i don't think it helped the Jazz to have Favors thrown out. However, maybe all the emotion helped the team play harder, so there is that trade off, but you could see the team just crumbling at the end. I think they did a lot of good things, and hopefully learn from the experience. If they do the little things right, they will win more.

What if we had lost by two points. Those two techs would look mighty bad.

Really ! Personally i am a peaceful kind of person. And like to be diplomatic when unpleasantness come's up. But i would not smile and turn the other cheek, or variously, skulk away like a whipped puppy. You mean ...... YOU would ?

I would play better and win the game, show them up that way.

yes, it is nothing, no reason to lose it, get T'd, and get players thrown out.
Don't let the player slap the ball away from you if it is so important to you , that is all.

It is just a little mind game, and the Jazz let Dirk get into their heads and lose control over nothing
