Hendricks ~ Rodman?

Feels like a Westbrook vs Stockton. One was a pure athlete with not the highest IQ. The other was all IQ and Grit with below average athleticism.

I think it depends on the player but typically athleticism pops and sticks. But I gave a terrible example for my conclusion.

We could replace Westbrook with Dennis Smith Jr. in this one and get a completely different answer.

I think it's all in how these elements balance out. Westbrook's BBIQ isn't low, and Stockton was by no means a poor athlete on the NBA scale. It's just that their athleticism & feel/IQ respectively were so high in comparison that it seemed like that's all their games were about, with a superficial glance.

Yeah, Stockton's athleticism, especially in his younger years, is insanely underrated. His strength and stamina for his size are probably generational.

Stockton dunked it twice in his career? He was an underrated athlete but athleticism didn't define his strengths on the court.

Westbrook played himself off the court by being a total ball hog who takes I'll advised shots and didn't realize that if he played the right way he would extend his career and help teams win. I don't know that IQ was his defining strength although he could play the game when he wanted. But he dunked on everything and everyone.

All players have to have balance but as far as DEFINING strengths... I think those are good comps especially since we aren't taking players who succeeded vs players who didn't succeed

Just curious. Would you prefer a top level athlete with low basketball feel/iq, or a below average (for the NBA) athlete with top level basketball feel/iq?
Jokic and luka have top IQ but not the most athletic.

Otoh you have young cleveland sexton and tht. Sexton got smarter when he came here. Tht sadly just don't get it. He had the size, speed and power for a guard he just couldn't get rid of his dumb moments.

We tend to think of Isaiah Collier as relatively (not insanely) athletic. Yet his game is almost just as much below the rim as Stockton's was. Stockton may not have had/utilized the hops, but everything else about him was very athletic, especially given his size.

I think one of the things that kinda works against Taylor here is his ideal position is where Lauri's is. Not that they are the same player and you can play multiple guys like that obviously... it might just not be ideal for Taylor personally.
At some point, I think the dream scenario is you can do a death lineup (one you only use to break the game in the closing minutes, not a lineup that plays a lot of minutes together) with Lauri at the 5 and Hendricks at the 4.
