What's new

Game Thread Oct 23, 2024 07:00PM MT: Memphis Grizzlies @ Utah Jazz

Added to Calendar: 10-23-24

MEM should be an interesting team to watch this year. I still think they are more of a regular season team than a contender type team…but they are very good when healthy.

Actually, the first two games, against Portland and GSW, are exactly the games where you want to go all out and compete for wins.

- you need some wins to build confidence of young players. The first two games - against strong, non-tanking teams (but not contenders) are exactly the games you can get hard-fought victories, especially at home

- these are two first home games: you need to give something positive to fans and make sure that they keep buying tickets and coming to the next home games

- also, the entire team needs something to raise their mood after the recent disaster in Portland

Teams sitting their stars in Utah, already happening.
I mean this one is just an injury. Normally they miss because of how Utah sits on their travel schedule.

Point does stand though. Because we are generally good at home and because we get a schedule advantage there... our homes games will be pretty competitive. Those are the games we need to experiment with Taylor as a pg and Kessler as a shooter.

They'll probably start Morant, Smart, Bane, Aldama and Edey. Their bench is a bit patchy due to injuries--Clarke, LaRavia, Vince Williams and Pippen Jr. maybe. Could be winnable. They don't have a great defensive matchup for Lauri.

I remember Bane few times doing pretty well against Lauri. Especially if we're going to keep training Lauri iso sets, Bane will be stealing the ball few times.

The conflict starts already? Cheering for wins, but hoping for losses. Talking about losses, but secretly happy for wins. Can't wait for these conflicting seasons to be over.

I don't see much chance for a win. Memphis offense will absolutely annihilate Jazz defense. They hired one of the worlds best offensive minds to be their assistant coach and the leader of offensive schemes. Their ball movement and assisting already in the pre-season was great, and actually they had most assists. We'll see tons of actions on Wednesday where Jazz help defense will be late af, and as the projected backcourt pairing aren't really excelling in man to man defense, it's gonna be ugly. I'd advice to pick sizeable win (+10) for Memphis,if you're on betting at all. Generally, bet on Memphis, they're gonna be better than market predictions.
