2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Clarkson with improved playmaking in the mold of a backup PG and getting his shot back would be sought after at the trade deadline.

Clarkson is 32. He's not gonna change his game at this point. This is how he'll play until he can't play anymore.

He's also a well known quantity around the league. His shot coming and going is not going to affect his trade value (which is zero). Nobody needs an older SG with declining athleticism who can't really play off the ball.

He's changed his game a ton the last 3 years...

The issue is that he has to play PG without other quality playmakers around him.

A player I think we should trade for his own sake is Sexton. If he was going to breakout and become something beyond a sixth man type guard, it won't happen here. I think he's more likely to be traded than Clarkson. They have similar-ish salaries and similar potential destinations, but I think Sexton is more palatable.

CHO is a good trade destination for Sexton/Clarkson IMO. Micic+Martin can be incoming matching salary. Can also throw Eubanks in there if Mark Williams is perma injured and they need more cover at the position.

My hunch is that the ideal plan is to trade Clarkson at the deadline, put Cody in the starting line-up and move Sexton to 6th man. That may be impossible given Clarkson has tanked his value, Danny will want a FRP and I think the only way that happens is if bad salary is coming back.

It will be extremely difficult to get a first for Clarkson, even if he's playing well. If any trade happens, I think it would be a strict salary trade....but I think he'll probably stay.

If we want to move Sexton to 6th man, I think we're better off just trading him. I would think that a winning team would value having a good 6th man more than a tanking team like us. We shouldn't give him away, but I don't think DA should play this game of holding out until the last second to try to squeeze out extra value with him.

Would be pretty stupid to trade Kessler unless you are getting a sizeable haul. Still dont buy the BS logic that the Jazz need to trade him to ensure losses.

We don't "need" to trade anyone. We're going to lose a ton with or without Lauri, but he's a good player and we understand that having him is going to hurt the tank. Kessler is one of our better players and we're likely going to lose a lotto spot or two by having him. This is true for any positive player the Jazz have. We don't have to get rid of them, but having good players like Kessler will result in more wins.

I'm not of the opinion that we need to trade, but losing more/tanking better would be one of the pros of trading him. With Kessler, I think a trade is possible mostly because his value relative to his salary is extremely good and there are likely teams who would value it greatly. The Jazz aren't one of those teams, so I can see a deal happening.
