This game highlights how lopsided the "theoretical size and athleticism" vs "the guy can actually hoop" drafting can be at times.

Not saying Knecht is HIM or Cody is never gonna be NBA level... but right now one is a real boy while the other cannot even use those superior measurables to bother him.
 
I'm rewatching some of tonight's game on KJZZ. It's apparent that the Jazz are probably the worst playmaking team in the league right now. Our guys, with one or two exceptions, are only able to make the most basic of passes, and even this requires time to process. No one is making a read or running much of a play.

Kessler, Lauri, Hendricks and the theoretical version of Cody.... all our "top prospects/guys" are the type that need a sun to revolve around or they wont be able to be the best versions of themselves. No matter if one or two of them develop their handles. They still arent gonna turn into Tatums or whatnots.

A guy like Key could work as the secondary playmaker, but we basically need Egor or some other prospect who can utilize those guys as an extension of himself. Its like Luka and Kyrie who can initiate the offense and make plays that also help Lively, Gafford and PJ Washington look like studs.

No, the problem is that what he did at Colorado – against much, much weaker competition – may have been his ceiling as a player. There was never any hint that he has that extra gear you need when you get to the NBA.

He was drafted at #10 because of name recognition and a mistaken belief that there was a reason to expect him to be something of a late bloomer, like his bro.

Oh well, when I look at the big picture, it becomes clear that not drafting Knecht was the right decision – I mean he may only be a very productive, scoring starter in the NBA for the next 10 years instead of 12. It'll all be over before it began!

Blame the players eh? It was a 9pt lead then knecht hit 4 3s before he called a timeout. Lead ballooned to 22 at the end of 3Q.
 
When you already have a championship lineup, adding a plug in piece like Knecht is a great option. Great draft pick by the Lakers. In the same league, Knecht does not look near as good as he did tonight if he is playing for the Jazz. The Jazz have a lot of great role players or even supporting star players but currently are missing one if not 2 players still that would raise the ceiling of our current group. Definitely not saying Cody Williams looks more promising then Knecht, but in our situation, could still be the better move. We will never compete for championships until we have found our center point for the team. That player is not currently on the roster. Next 2 drafts will spell out the near future pending who we get and if they are the guy.

Or maybe he would look better with more opportunity and less pressure.

Regardless, he's clearly much much much better than Cody. It might take Cody 3 years to get to the point where Knecht is now.

I'm not against drafting for potential, but when you're drafting someone who is so far away, that's kind of an issue unless the potential is massive, and the Cody potential definitely isnt massive.

He's playing on a team that has a collective passing mindset. Sure, Lebron probably has a lot to do with it. But it's still smart basketball, no matter the personnel.

We, on the other hand, play dumb, selfish basketball.

I dont think we play selfish dumb basketball. I just think we have so few playmakers, that it puts way too much pressure on the guys who can actually create their own shot.

Filipowski has hit a rookie wall it seems, and he was the main catalyst of the improved ball movement/flow, so the offense has taken another hit. Then we roll out Cody for 10-15 MPG and when you play him, the offense is impossible to run.
