it's not that williams bad or struggling, etc - well it is sorta those things - but the main issue is that he's not doing anything. he doesn't even try. collier, and keyonte early in the season, are examples of guys who just stink sometimes, struggling with their shot, turnovers, etc - but at least they are going out and playing basketball. there is a level of aggression when they are on the floor.
cody williams just goes out there and stands around. gets the ball takes a dribble or two and swings it to the nearest teammate. all i'm asking is for him to do something. it's too reminiscent of Dante Exum (and what i saw that caused me to hate him as a draft prospect in feb and march at colorado) and it's giving me ptsd.
I think his motor and aggression level is a fair question, however I choose to believe that he's just a cerebral guy that needs to mentally get up to speed before his body can start responding. He's still very clearly processing the game. A lot of what we see as aggression on the court is rooted in confidence, which Cody has none right now. Offensively I'm guessing he recognizes that he can't do anything positive with the ball and so he defers to teammates that can. This might be the part of his game where the G-League could most benefit him.
He needs to either fix his shot or fix his body before he can really do anything in the NBA and gain confidence. Neither are easy or immediate fixes, but both are likely to happen over time. Hopefully he figures out some ways that he can be a positive on the court in the meantime. He's a smart kid and has good coaches around him, so I think they will figure it out.
