Welcome to Orange Clown Monday. Strap on your seat belts, the Clowncoaster is about to depart.

The Mango Moron is now threatening another increase of 50% on China. If I'm China, I'm immediately opening free trade negotiations with everyone They're not going to get a better opportunity than this with the current moron in charge.

I think Trump overplayed his hand and got caught, yet he continues to try to bluff his way out of it even though everyone can already see his cards.

I honestly don't think so. Trump genuinely thinks blanket tariffs are good policy. He's been open about it since long before he got elected. He wants to create a department of "External Revenue Service" to collect tariffs. He thinks the world cannot live without the US, and that they'll have to suck it up and get tariffed without retaliating. We've had posters on this forum arguing for the same thing, and waxing poetic about the sound US trade policy of the 18th and 19th centuries. They were not joking. Just like Trump, these people really are that stupid.

Off the top of my head the only industry the US is a clear world leader in is Arms manufacturing.
No doubt the American market is a huge market and companies would love to have access but in the end of the day they will sell products elsewhere to easier more open markets. I think after the Canadian and Australian elections there will be serious talk of a FTA between Canada, the UK, NZ and Australia. Australia is currently pushing ahead with FTA negotiations with the EU.

The US might just find themselves shut out of the global economy.

Countries can also retaliate by tariffing US services, not just goods. Which would hurt the US economy even more than retaliatory tariffs on goods. That's another area where the US is a clear world leader. It is perfectly possible we're witnessing the end of the US as a relevant world power.

China have been investing heavily across Central Asia, Middle East and Central/East Africa to open up new trade routes and secure vital raw materials. You should check the Belt & Road Initiate (also known as the New SilK Road). Chinese investment in Latin American mineral-rich countries is also massive (see Chancay megaport in Peru inaugurated by Xi Jinping some months ago). They also signed several FTAs with key partners in the last 20 years. USA in the meantime, well..
