Game Thread NBA Draft Lottery - May 12, 2025

Added to Calendar: 05-12-25

This is what happens when your entire plan is getting lucky in the lottery. It is also why when you are trading future HOF players you insist on some young talent, not just a stockpile of crap shoot picks. It would be good for the NBA if the worst 3-4 teams never got the first pick.

I will say that I can absolutely see San Antonio putting together a godfather package to move up 1 spot and nab Cooper Flagg while Dallas gets Harper and a haul to rebuild with. I actually think that’s more likely than them trading for a win now veteran.

Haha Nico isn’t trading Flagg.

This was a brutal result, but the reality of tanking. This was by far and away the most likely outcome for us. I don’t think the mistake was tanking this year, but perhaps the decision to blow everything up in the first place should be reconsidered. What we were left with when we decided to blow it up was these realities.

I don't believe the lottery is rigged and apparently neither does Andy Larsen, however he did post this:

Of the Jazz's 140 lottery combinations, none of them had a 1? And then they don't draw a 1 in 16 draws?

1, they need to broadcast it on national TV for everyone to see.

2, they need to have a third party authority examining all the lottery balls before or after the lottery to make sure they are all the same in terms of weight, size and materials made so they don't have any kind of mechanism in place to rig the result in any way.

Of all the people who witnessed the whole process inside that private room, I don't see anyone making any mentions about examining the lottery balls. Not sure what's so hard for them to do this.

Agreed mostly. The only thing I'd nitpick is that "the decision to blow everything up in the first place should be reconsidered." I don't believe it takes hindsight to realize this now and if we weren't heavily stirred by emotion it was patently visible then.
