it seems to me he has plenty of leverage. if he just flat out refuses to come here, won't the jazz eventually be forced to trade him? how can they let a top-five pick just waste away? he may be flush with NIL cash, or able to get some nice loans against his future NBA income, to tide him over.

You seem to have a weird idea about what leverage is. Losing out on millions of dollars and damaging your reputation—just to play the same lottery again—doesn't sound like a good use of leverage; it sounds like losing.

There's also a very clear, bright line here—and I'm sure the jazz don't want to be the ones to have it crossed on them. There are a lot of good things to come out of the Player Empowerment Era, but I'm 100000% sure that owners don't want to see new entrants into the league steering their way to wherever they want to go. I'm sure the Jazz would let Ace burn himself to the ground before they'd be the first team to get stepped on like that.

Ya we will see. One went 5 and one went 6 in the draft so nba teams had them ranked kinda close. Maybe that was due to the drama and Ace would have went #2 without the drama or something. Idk.
Ace definitely has better defensive potential and tre was the much better shooter in college. I dont know much about win shares but Tre win shares was quite a bit higher.

If he thinks he can get the Jazz to trade him before the season starts, he won't miss out on any money. I guess it could ding his reputation a bit, but how much really? Many established players have publicly forced their way off of teams and did it really hurt them all that much?

And the Jazz have already crossed a similar line several times before, when they traded Deron and Donovan supposedly because they thought they would not re-sign with the team. If it is true that Bailey doesn't want to be here, then I don't see how this situation is all that different from those two. And to think that NBA teams are going to circle the wagons in support of the Jazz? LOL, if any other teams think Bailey can play and be had at the disadvantage to the Jazz, they will be happy to make offers.

If Bailey told the Jazz straight up not to pick him and the Jazz ignored that, it seems plausible to me he could really try to force his way out.

that's about where i'm at - i gave ace the edge because he's bigger.

I will say, Harper was never great about finding Bailey and helping him get good shots and get in a rhythm. and i could be completely off - sorta grasping at straws. it's something i thought about a lot while it was happening, and was baffled by it. as i said earlier i often asked myself if he just forgot how to shoot, if he had the yips or something.
