Fasting

What the **** is wrong with you people? Fasting? Absolute ****ing nonsense. The Germans put my mates relatives on a long involuntary fast in 40s and it didn't ****ing work out too well for them. Fasting... Idiots...
Well, if they just called it starvation, nobody would want to do it.

My step-mother ended her life with VSED - Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking - basically starved herself to death. Her illnesses, while debilitating, did not qualify for the Oregon Death with Dignity act, as they were not terminal, and she didn't want to actually commit suicide, so VSED. It was pretty terrible for her, and for us to watch.

So sorry to hear that. Another way religion has failed us. Instead of allowing people the dignity to choose how and when we force it to be ugly and mean and terrible for all involved because invisible sky Daddy might get mad or something. ****ing ridiculous. Although I applaud Oregon for at least having a law on the books, most of these laws needs to be expanded. Give people the choice they deserve. I think the same should apply to things like dementia. If the diagnosis is impending dementia then the individual should be allowed to choose to end it when they are still lucid and can have a final meaningful goodbye with their loved ones instead of becoming a burden on everyone and suffering until they die a much worse death. So much for us actually being civilized.

Right, they should allow you to add that into your advance directive - "If I get dementia and think it's 1984 again and can't recognize my children, just pump me full of drugs and let me float away." My mother-in-law is currently in that state, she thinks my wife is either her sister or a friend from high school, whereas she is the oldest child and the only one left (one died of cirrhosis and the other of an unspecified drug overdose.).

Too late. I caved at about 41 hours.
Not bad, close to 2 days. Try again after a few weeks. You can build up to it. How long did you want to go for? You were counting in hours so I'm assuming not more than 2 or 3 days?

Dude, that's awful. Its the same here with our assisted dying stuff, you cant have a directed will or directed care plan if say you have an illness like dementia. I've had to hold down so many ancient people, while a nurse force feeds them through a nasal gastric tube against their will. It is a soul destroying experience, these poor people are ****ing terrified and you just walk away going this cant be my job.

Damn that's rough.
They need to allow more people to qualify. And allow it in all states.

Jesus. Having that job should also qualify for the assisted suicide thing
