Jazz trade John collins

At least we can sell hope and talk ourselves into them, as we don't have enough data points to say yay nor nay definitively.

I think it'll be harder to sell hope for someone for whom we have four years of data points, pointing mostly downward.
You can always sell hope for a 22 year old with great measurables who hasn't played a ton so far.

I mean if there was no hope then there wouldn't be any jazzfanz posters wanting to acquire him

The only real problem I have with taking a flier on Kuminga is that he likely cut into the development of other players. If we don't to attempt to develop young players with some warts, we might as well give up on half our roster lol. We have a lot of young players who are not very good yet. We're in the business of turning lemons into lemonade. But I don't think we have room for JK with Ace in the building.

I like Grimes as a better target because he has proven to be able to scale down into a smaller role and be a contributor.

Now do the Lauri trade. The only logical next step.
Nah, with only Lauri and Walker as proven rotation pieces, we will be a bottom four team if we don`t make any further moves. I think it would be better just to play him and trade him if he has a good start to the season. If not, we can just keep him as we have no need of clearing his salary.

You may well be right.

And, he may be the best we can get for our cap space money.

If so, God help us. We aren't winning anything, anytime soon.

I just dont really get taking a "flier" on Kuminga (is it really a flier when he's going to cost north of 20 per year?). He cant shoot and he doesnt get stocks. If he could shoot it decently, or was a high level stocks player, I'd have hope for his future, but is neither so I just dont.

Like Sexton, I think Collin's is underrated by NBA observers and has, for reasons I don't quite understand, acquired a not-so-good rep. I am actually glad for him that he can now play meaningful games and contribute (hopefully) to winning.

Given that we've spent the last 2 years or so trying to unload Collin's, and that we're on a 3-year quest to lose, I'm not sure I grasp the rationale why we acquired him in the first place. Seems a bit antithetical to what the FO has been trying to do.

Because he's at a salary number teams dont want to pay to guys who arent clear cut top 75 players.

The league hates players that don't defend after Boston and OKC won the title. Everyone views the NBA as a weak link league now where your defense is only as good as your worst defender.

(This is also extremely bad news for Keyonte and Sensabaugh and maybe bad for Filipowski as well, lol)

lol so the net return on the Collins acquisition is a 2nd round pick?

I was hoping to get at least two, but it's w/e. The team is now fully ready to do an organic tank without needing to worry about sitting players
We were never going to get a return greater than we gave ("free"). I'm actually impressed we were able to land the package we got. It's also a far cry from the package numerous people assumed in that he'd be part of a package "for a star." But I hope there will be some lessons learned in this about trying to use some second-order reasoning on trades where we believe the value of whatever we're acquiring is an investment that will increase over time to become something better or that we're going to rehab someone's value and cash in on it.

But this is the first player trade in quite some time that I've felt even marginally optimistic about the overall deal, so that's a pretty huge plus for me. Not getting a lot of Ws in that context so I'm really going to savor this one.

The Clarkson/Collins/Sexton moves over the last three years were brutal, no doubt about that. We can talk about the failures of recent memory forever, but I'm not going to complain about the solution. We had to take out the trash and we did. This summer is all about AA paying for the sins of his father. These uncomfortable "losing trades" should have happened years ago.

I mean, if we got Flagg this year I think the Jazz might ahve gone the route in using their salaries to get a star. Who knows. Just because something didnt happen doesnt mean keeping that option open was a bad move.
