What's new

The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

It's way more important than even that, to be more important to the success of the league so they will give you a higher draft pick. See what it did this year? Propelled the Mavs, sixers and spurs to the top 3 spots! Way more important to be a team the league wants to succeed, and that, unfortunately, will never be the Jazz.
Ace Bailey may turn out to be the best player from this draft

I don't really understand what the Spurs are doing at the guard. I thought they'd get rid of Fox and go young but nobody is going to trade for that now. It looks like Castle is going to be on the outside looking in and he might not be happy about it.

I mean, Castle isn't really good enough to be demanding anything. Spurs promised Fox that extension in order to get him in the trade. That was before they got lucky in the lottery.

Sure but you could say that every year about every player.
Your statement doesn't address the post you quoted.

That's a lot of salary filler
Not necessarily - Devin Vassell & Harrison Barnes are essentially = in salary to Lauri.
Would you guys do Lauri for Castle picks and salary filler?
I was in favor of a deal like this before the draft, so I’d probably be in favor of it now. . . but I’d ask for a LOT to make it happen.

Castle, Vassell and Barnes (to be flipped to a 3rd team later), both 26 picks (SA & Atlanta) and an unprotected superswap of the best of their picks in 2030 (SA, Dallas & Minnesota) and 2031 (SA & Sacramento) - oh, and I’d get the Jazz 26 2nd round pick back.

Ultimately, they’d say no. . . but I’d still look at that deal.

Castle / Collier / WCJ
Vassell / George / Williams
Bailey / Sensabaugh
Hendricks / Fillipowski
Kessler / Nurkic

Castle isn’t a PG. He’s a defensive 2/3 and secondary creator who needs to shoot better to play starter minutes. He’s closer to a Dyson Daniels than a lead guard.

Spurs must be betting on Harper’s ability to play off the ball. They’ll run Fox and Harper in their backcourt. Vassel comes off the bench or gets moved. Castle takes minutes at the 2 and 3 commensurate with his ability to shoot, while they’ve also got Carter Bryant at the 3/4. They’ll play Wemby as a 5-out and let Fox, Harper and Castle take turns driving at the rim.

I think what really happened is that they promised Fox this contract, which allowed them to get him for cheap, and forgot they literally win every lotto and didn't expect to land Harper. Still kinda surprised they weren't open at all to moving Harper. VJ and Kon would have been excellent fits there.

If they would’ve moved down with the pick, VJ and Kon wouldn’t have even been options for them - unless Philly or Charlotte wanted to move up.

But who is going to space? Fox, Harper, and Castle are all subpar shooters and Carter Bryant didn't inspire any confidence with his offensive game either. It seems obvious to me that it won't work out unless those 3 drastically improve as shooters. And Harper didn't strike me as all that good of an offball player. Vassell is critical because he can actually shoot and space, no way he gets moved. I get just going bpa but shouldn't the Spurs prioritize guys who fit better and maximize what Wemby can do? It looks pretty bad right now.

What do you do with SloMo and Love?

The Spurs should speed up their timeline. I sorta understand rolling into this season with their current roster and seeing what works, but I also think it's kinda obvious how the roster will need to be balanced.

This is the ultimate team, we have 3 deep bench players at every position! No starters, but deep benches that is for sure.

Don't worry, if the league decides they need a certain player to round out the team, then the league will make sure that player "somehow" ends up on the Spurs.
