Walter Clayton Jr. Hype Thread

I don't understand this pick. There's absolutely no minutes for him at his position.

I think the Jazz thought Keyonte was not good and wanted to replace him but now it's just really awkward.

WCJ was also kind of a bizarre pick even at the time because he was a guy whose appeal was not his upside, but just that he was seemingly ready to go right away... And well, he's not, but even if he was, that's not super helpful for this Jazz team, lol

Anyway, picks this late usually fail, but it's a little unfortunate.

Walt is going to be great he's just in a tough position right now. Nice to have him as a backup.

Walt has huge upside and the fact that he is playing behind a guy that takes lots of shots inefficiently and doesn't play defense is a reason for him to be patient. He is also behind a player that while exciting and great at creating does not shoot well. I hope we hang on to him for a few years and let things shake out. I can see him as a starting PG on a very good team.

To be fair, at the time Keyonte absolutely blowing up wasn’t on the radar…
It was on some peoples radar....
And if you believe the off-season reports then it was totally on the jazz front office radar.
So many glowing reports about keyonte from the media in the off-season.

I don't know if he'll be any good but he currently has a 11.7 PER and a 0 defensive box plus/minus. that's probably the best result after one month of any player the Jazz have drafted the last three years?

exactly. he averaged 17 and 6 on 54% TS in just his second year. it's not unusual at all for a third year player to jump to 20 ppg on say 56-58% TS. which probably about where he'll be at the end of the year.

were people really expecting a 21 year old who had been in the league two years to not improve at least somewhat significantly in his third season?

Minor setback for a major comeback.

Still think he gets the Collier minutes before long, but Isaiah has been better than I expected so far (minus the nonexistent shooting).

Looking at colliers stats compared to his rookie season and he is putting up pretty great numbers in the small sample size. His shooting efficiency is great but very low volume. Assists are up. Turnovers down (slightly). Scoring up.
Minutes are basically identical.

Points last year at 8.7
Points this year at 10.7

eFG last year was 45.9%
This season so far is at 61.1%

Last year assists at 6.3
This year at 7.2

Rebounds are exactly the same at 3.3

Probably another player benefitting from the team actually trying to win.

Or just such a small sample size that it means nothing at all. Hope he isn't hurt after that play last night.
