For more reasons than intentionally trying to lose games right now, Lauri needs to take some rest games and probably not play much more than 30 minutes a game.
39 minutes last night.
What the **** are we doing? Even if we were in the running for a championship he shouldn't have played 39 minutes last night.

I know why you say this, but aside from that, Lauri’s average of 35.8 minutes per game isn’t unusual. Fifty players in the league average over 33 minutes per game. Even old dudes like James Harden and Kevin Durant have averaged more minutes per game than Lauri this season.

Also, the opposite, giving him more minutes, might work better for us. If Lauri makes the All-Star Game again, his trade value will be high. And if teams like the Pistons, Spurs, Heat, or Raptors start losing games, they could get desperate and make an offer the Jazz can’t refuse. Personally, I don’t want to trade Lauri, but I can see this scenario as possible, and with a great offer, I would be ok with it.

Meanwhile, half the league’s all-stars are sidelined with injury and the train of the game’s increasing strain producing injuries just keeps building speed.

He’s also a giant playing a style of above-average mobility for his size and has an affinity for amassing nagging injuries that sap his effectiveness. Him making an all-star game relies on the Jazz being good enough (bad outcome) and him being healthy (unlikely outcome if we keep grinding him down). He will be worth more if he’s healthy than if he’s not. Period.

There is no reason to be doing this.

Screw the tank. Having said that, losing walker will hurt the win total a lot. Silver lining is hopefully the rest will learn better defence in the vacuum his loss will create. However they will only learn this if they actively try to win.

Biggest reason to be somewhat confident in the tank is Key/Lauri have been having career years and likely won't play at that level all season if they are being dragged down by a few rotation players.

Whatever it takes to stay within the top 7 picks of the lottery otherwise OKC gets our pick and after last years first pick going to the Mavs and the only guarantee is top 5 pick if you are the worst in the league, they better not win much more.
I think at this point, we're just hoping to be one of those teams who actually use the lottery to get a better pick rather than ensuring the pick. Its looking like a lost hope unless something bad enough happens (not specifying to not put bad juju into the world) that takes another starter out most/all of the rest the season.

Really wish the Jazz would've not blown it up and tanked midseason in 2023-24.

Could've just let that pick convey instead of drafting Cody Williams.
Especially it didn't take much hindsight to call this draft class one of the weakest of all time. It looked terrible then and it still looks terrible now.

Plus in 2024 we had like 3 other draft picks we could fall back on in case we give it to OKC whereas this pick we are in the risk of losing is the only we have for the entire 2026.

We are soooo stupid. Like so dumb. Just roll out Cody and Taylor for 30 minutes instead of Svi/Love for 40+. Can still be competitive and lose under the guise of development.

We are going to FAFO and it’s gonna hurt for years. But the vibes lol.

Also, if you think Nurk isn’t a rotation level center you don’t know ball. @Saint Cy of JFC

Everyone was saying we were crazy to trade sexton for Nurk but Nurk is more valuable to us. He’s not amazing he’s just a smart and crafty player.

Cody is the worst player in the NBA and the current Taylor isn't much better, unfortunately. You can ostensibly "develop" kids in the league by playing them instead of established vets, but once the kids get this bad, it's just too obvious of a tanking move. They might just as well pick a random guy out of the stands and insert him at small forward.

People like to talk about the PT the vets get, but I mean... we just let WCJ run an NBA team for like 40 minutes and he'd been absolutely terrible this season. I wouldn't call that playing it safe.
