It Gets Better at Brigham Young University

And more power to them and to you, my friend. But it has to be said, where the LDS Church stands currently on LGBT lifestyles will come to head for these kids eventually. I wish them well and hope they continue to be happy, but the fact that their church will not accept them as they are fully will end up hurting them, badly. It sucks.

How exactly does "the church" not accept them? Are they kicked out of BYU? Excommunicated? Are they not able to participate in activities or have callings? That's weird. I thought I saw in this video (all) of them mentioning their callings, flirting at church activities, and attending church. Have they been expelled from church and kicked out of BYU in the past few days?

I was raised Mormon, but left because I'm gay. I was 19, and faced with the choice of coming out, or going on The Mish.

I really don't understand people who want to be in homosexual relationships, yet still follow the church. Every Sunday or so growing up, I would sing a song in primary called "Follow the Prophet". This song, various other church hymns, and countless other General Conference talks taught me that the Prophet directly communicates with God-- and what he says is LITERALLY the word of GOD. To say "I disagree with the Prophet's stance on homosexuality" is to say "I do not believe in the Mormon religion." The LDS faith is special, in that it has a modern day prophet, which means the doctrine is NOT up for interpretation. In fact, it's quite clear how the church feels about homosexual relationships.

If you think your interpretation of the LDS religion is better than that of the religion's actual prophet, then you need to start your own church.

And how do you feel about, say, Catholic priests and nuns who also choose to remain celibate? Are their lives similarly worthless, degrading, and sad?

No, but they're adults who can make this decision for themselves after years of consideration and prayer.

Being gay is basically "Be celibate, or be excommunicated."

This was a great video and I think actually makes BYU look good. Sounds like none of these people have received any hate or mistreatment from their fellow students.

Hey at least they are not Black.

"If the White man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain (those with dark skin), the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." - Brigham Young

Some past Mormon leaders have SAID some crazy stuff in the past. Luckily they were never as crazy as current MUSLIMS who are actually KILLING homosexuals by hanging them. I would keep your mouth shut because the Muslim religion is the most anti-homosexual organization in the world.

All the LDS church does is cause lifelong depression and suicidal thoughts.

First of all I did this because TroutBum went to the Muslim forum and starting saying the reason Muslims are Muslims are for Virgins. I don't mean to offend any Mormons.

Now second of all I want to talk about homosexual acts in Islam

There is no punishment in the Qur'an for Homosexual acts.

The only reference in the Qur'an is people from the tribe of Lut did Homosexual acts outside of marriage in spite of Allah wanting them to and Allah punished them with death.

Basically the view is that if they do something wrong, it is for Allah to Judge.

Even the most conservative of the Hanafi sunni school says "Muslim blood can only be spilled for adultery, apostasy and homicide" (BTW the Qur'an also mentions NO PUNISHMENT for apostasy, this school just views it as such)

Further I want to reference something for you.

"no legal punishment is stated in the Qur'an for homosexuality... it is not reported that Prophet Muhammad has punished somebody for committing homosexuality...there is no authentic hadith reported from the Prophet prescribing a punishment for the homosexuals..."

Hmmm, I guess that's like, your opinion man. The fact is, even the prophet of the LDS church is a man, and is therefore fallible. I am also vehemently against the church's stance on homosexuality, science/evolution/age of the Earth, among other things, but you'll never get me to leave the church. I'm fairly certain you'll never find a bishop or anyone in authority that will tell me that I need to either change my mind, or get out/start my own church either.

That being said, I see why you feel the way you do, and I don't begrudge you your feelings. Heaven knows you've probably had a harder go at it than I have. We should get together one of these nights, have a few drinks, and I can show you the pictures from Archie's bachelor party. (hint: Cap'n Morgan, clown costume, video camera, donkey)
