Are we a shot blocking big man away from contention?

Gasol = Perfect but highly, highly doubtful (Millsap & our '13 1st round pick wont get it done)
Memo for Okafor = Dont want to take on the add'l 2 years of his monster contract
Bogut = See comments above for Gasol
Kaman = unlikely but mmm... Memo/Milsap (give them depth, Memo/Griffin/Millsap/Jordan??)
Gortat = I'd rather let Fes get those minutes & it'll be more fun watching Fes' development than cursing Gorat's contract (unless we trade Millsap for a future 1st & use our Harping PTE on him, cause spending 13M annually on 2 backup big men isn't financially wise)
Chandler = My person from the start!! KOC should've expanded the Jefferson trade for this (MIN gets: PTE/KoKo/3 1st (our's unconditional, CHA conditional) & CHA gets: Memo/Sessions & UTA gets: Jefferson/Chandler... yes this could've worked if MIN trades the PTE in a seperate deal). Chander is long, active, contract comes off after this season (saving $ if we'd kept Memo), & would've prevented DAL from getting Chandler (he w/ Haywood make a DAL better).

Good list. I'd love to see most any of those guys in a Jazz uniform. I don't see the Jazz picking Gasol, Bogut, or Kaman this year, because they wouldn't get traded. Gasol might be worth a big offer next year though after the lockout ends.

Gortat and Okafor are sort of overrated. They would be improvements over what we already have, but I don't think enough to make us a contender.

Chandler would be interesting, but hasn't he had a lot of injury problems over the past few years? Could probably add Yao Ming to that list too, as he becomes a free agent next year... but I'd categorize him in the "too risky" bin along with Chandler.

Until the next free agent period rolls around, I think all we can do is hope that Fess cut back on the marlboros and learned how to rebound... or just hope the lakers lose a big man to injury during the playoffs.

Day we get Marc Gasol is the day Mitt Romney Becomes president.

I like the comparison, but can you be more specific? Did you mean Marc will come to UTah on the day of the General Election, when the Electoral College meets, or on the Day Mitt is sworn in?

Probably, but it's been that way 3 of the past 4 years.

If the 2.12 bp48m the younger Gasol averaged, so much of an improvement then the 1.81 bp48m that Okur averaged going to make a difference between the Jazz making the play-off's and going on until they get eliminated by the Lakers and the Jazz becoming NBA champions then basketball is realy more of a game of details then I knew it to be.

It's more along the lines that basketball--and even defense, even paint defense--is more than shotblocking.

MG also rebounds and passes at a higher rate. Okur, of course, has the edge on the long-range jumper.

Not sure how much better M. Gasol is than Okur is, but being five years younger helps.
