If he wants to make it his team he should start with some things a little more substantitive like not placating veterans when they whine to the media, while dealing with other unhappy players by pretending they're not there, not having zeros who haven't won anything like Sidney Lowe and Michael Sanders on his coaching staff and not getting out-coached (badly) 80% of the time.
I'm not a big Corbin fan. I've made it known by my constant Van Gundy and Thibodeau ramblings. That said, I don't think he's a terrible coach.
I wouldn't say the former placated vets when they whined to the media. What do you mean exactly here? Because I'd say the exact opposite. As soon as the Bell situation arose, he was DNP'ed the rest of the year. As soon as Watson made some sort of backhanded remark (I forget what it was off the top of my head), he never regained his backup role from Tinsley. And in both cases, it never really escalated beyond the initial remarks. Sure, Bell added in more after the season was over and Miles added in his whiny **** but those of these guys appear gone so it really doesn't matter.
I also wouldn't say he was outcoached badly 80% of the time. I think he showed some improvement as the year went along. Case in point, starting the three bigs in game four vs. the Spurs. Sloan never would have done that. So let's hope we see some more educated "risks" like that. Granted, his learning curve and adjustments oftentimes seem like too little (or nothing at all sometimes), too late, but I do see decisions made that again, I feel Jerry never would have made. Playing Burks the amount he did this year might be one of those. My instncts tell me Jerry would've just stuck with good ol' Miles and Bell.
This year is a big year. A huge year. If no trades are made, we should see solid improvement in the team. We have Mo now. We should see a big leap in Kanter. Burks could also be much better. Jefferson's joined those two at P3 and he's in a contract year so if we don't see solid improvement from him (I'm not holding my breath), then it becomes even more painfully obvious, even to his supporters, that he needs to go. Hayward should become more consistent, especially from deep. Carroll will hopefully add a little more stability and energy at the 3 that we missed during most of the year. And then there's Favors. I guess my point is, if we don't jump from about 45 win pace (which is what we were last year) to around 49 or 50 wins, I'll be disappointed. He, and those crappy assistants (which I do agree with you on; this and turning a blind eye to unhappy campers) need to develop the young guys. Period. Now. Period.
