No BYU-Utah Rivalry Football Games in 2014 or 2015

Utah-BYU series over

Well, for 2014 and 2015 anyway. It also sounds like when it returns, it won't be on a yearly basis. Utah plays Michigan in 14 and 15, so I think Im fine with the rivalry taking a couple years off here and there as long as Utah is filling the void with big time opponents. As for BYU, I'm sure they won't have a problem scheduling Idaho St twice a year. Rise and shout baby!

Why would Utah want to play BYU?

The problem is BYU isn't Notre Dame (nor will they ever be) and they don't play a demanding enough schedule...So, basically, all Utah would be doing by playing them would be giving BYU a chance to upset the Utes and gain more national cred. If Utah beats BYU, it's expected and it would be of little to no benefit for them.

I see why the U did it, is all I'm saying—but with that said, I'll miss the BYU / Utah rivalry games, those were always fun to go to and fun to watch.

If Utah has sold out to the point they are "too good" for BYU that is sad. Sucks for both BYU & Utah fans.

I get that vibe from some, but not even a majority of Utah fans. But, I definitely get that vibe from Chris Hill. Every time I hear him talk about football he sounds more and more like a total elitist.

A definite lose/lose for college football fans in Utah.

Not so sure about that. Can you imagine the venon and rhetoric thats going to build up during the 2 off years? If anything, I think it might take things up a notch. 2016 is going to be downright anarchy, especially if both schools are successful during their time apart.

I think BYU and Utah fans over estimate their own importance. While it might be a big game within the state, it doesn't resonate anywhere else. Hell, Michigan and Notre Dame are taking 2 years off in the near future, yet for some reason Ute and Cougar fans think they should be exempt from scheduling issues that go along with becoming bigger programs.

Thats not what it comes down to. Hill and the majority of the other PAC 12 AD's would like to see the 9 game conference schedule dropped down to 8. It would allow much more schedule flexibility and under that scenario you would see Utah play BYU every year. Right now, Hill is just being matter of fact and not sugar coating anything.
