No BYU-Utah Rivalry Football Games in 2014 or 2015

Right, Utah is so great that it is such a huge sacrifice to play lowly BYU every year.

EDIT: Also, did I say BYU wasn't about the money at all? Also, is it even a "rivalry" if one side is making outlandish demands?

You infer that BYU cares more about the rivalry than money, which isn't true.

Outlandish demands? Like how Utah spent and lost millions of dollars last year to play BYU, and BYU sacrificed nothing? Especially in a year where PAC-12 teams received their full share of revenue and Utah received a very small %?

Utah has been bending over backwards to make this work, and BYU does nothing but whine. Throw in head shots, trying to horsecollar players 5 yards deep in the endzone, twisting ankles in the bottom of the pile, cheap shots on QB's, etc and can you see why Utah would be a little tired and back out? Playing BYU benefits Utah's fans, not Utah's program. BYU does nothing for Utah's schedule, reputation, rankings, etc.

p.s. The Red/Blue charity event is held every year. The losing coach sings the other team's fight song. LaVell, McBride, and Whitt have all participated and been good sports. Bronco? He refused to sing along. Little things like that get old fast. Why continue to schedule a team that is nothing but disrespectful [(see how Holmoe, Bronco and players have reacted to Utah trying to work with BYU but having to take a break from the game to play national legends (Michigan)] and doesn't help you in your standings, and doesn't bring you any additional revenue?

Thriller nailed it on the head and while I don't often agree with him, he seems to be one of the few BYU fans on this board that can own up to the reality of whats going on.

BYU is living in a world in which they are trying to be a relgious institution first and foremost (as they should be), while also proclaiming that they can be a football power in the independent landscape. Wake up BYU fans, YOU ARE BEING LIED TO. BYU is making the choice to have it's athletics help prop up their tv network that is still in it's infancy. Due to that decision, BYU missed a chance at joining the BIG 12.

The decisions BYU has made regarding BYUtv are understandable, and quite frankly, admirable from my point of view, but they taint that when they continue to insist that football is going to be just fine. It isn't, and anybody who can step away from the kool-aid just for a second should be able to see that. If BYU remains independent, and doesn't find their way into a major conference within the next few years, their program will look like hell 10 years from now. Not really interested in debating that with anybody either. Time will prove me to be 100% correct on that one.

Who said Utah is making "outlandish" demands? And even if they were, if they can drop BYU for 2 years and fill that void with the likes of Michigan, perhaps Utah has enough leverage to demand whatever they want to.

Hmmmm, a home and home with BYU or a home and home with Michigan? Gee, let me think about that for about a half a second.

That's referring to green (and anyone else) saying BYU should agree to do a 2-for-1.

Bending over backwards? If that were really the case, would there be a two-year break in the rivalry? You're completely overrating Utah by saing beating BYU doesn't help Utah's rankings. BYU isn't some little Division 1-AA school. You look like a fool by implying that just BYU plays dirty in rivlalry games. Finally, without fans, there would be no sports programs. So it would definitely be in the best interst of Chris Hill to consider what Utah fans want before cancelling the rivalry altogether.

IF BYU would throw Utah a bone (like allowing Utah to have an additional home game when warranted, i.e., years when Utah has 5 road PAC games), give Utah a little gate money when Utah spends/loses millions to play BYU, or even do something silly like sing the fight song when you lose, or not whining all day long about Utah may or may not keep the game when they have a chance to play Michigan instead, I am sure Utah would be more willing to keep BYU around.

As far as dirty play, did you watch last season? Did you not see Uale hit Christopher in the head in the end zone? Did you not see the other BYU player try to horse collar White when Utah was up 30+ points and White was 5 yards deep in the end zone? Did you not see Ogletree twist Vakapuna's ankle after a tackle that took him out the game and hampered him the rest of the season? Really?

BYU isn't some D1-AA school. They are a good mid major. When Utah beat BYU 54-10, did anyone on national radio talk about the game? Nope? Did Sportscenter show highlights? Not until the next day, and it was a quick blip. Did Utah become ranked? Nope. Did recruits de-committ from BYU and commit to Utah? Nope. So, what exactly does playing BYU do for Utah, other than allow people to be jerks to each other during priesthood?

Finally, you say Chris Hill should consider Utah fans when dropping BYU. Do you think Utah fans will be disappointed that Hill has dropped BYU and replaced them with Michigan? The only people whining about this are Utah fans that don't realize that we are playing MIchigan those two years and BYU fans that realize this is another step in the direction of irrelevance for BYU's program.

I don't agree with you on everything, but that's very true. Also their program probably will look like hell if they stay independent that long.

EDIT: That would be a slow painful demise if it came to that.

My final thoughts on the matter are that BYU is partly responsible for the lapse in the rivalry game, Utah is somewhat less responsible, and ultimately it sucks for fans of either school. Hopefully they can have a couple of great games this year and next, and find a way to extend it beyond 2016. Anyway, it is what it is.

How do you figure Utah is less responsible for the lapse than BYU?

Show me where Utah fans say that freshman QB will contend for a Heisman. Show me where Utah fans/coaches talk about undefeated seasons/NC/etc. Show me where Utah fans talk about undersized, slow front sevens being the best in the country. Show me where Utah fans talk about their two star WR's, who disappear against legit football teams are NFL guys. Show me instances when BYU would beat Utah by 40 pts, and Utah fans ran around saying BYU was lucky to win that game. Need I go on? Or do you actually believe those things?

BYU is a good program, and they have their niche. They go 1-2 every year, then rip off 8-9 wins over crappy teams and end up ranked #20-25. It's fine, it's their thing, and given their recruiting limitations, it is a good formula to stay relevent without doing much. BUT, that being said, BYU needs to be realistic, and realize that winning 10 games, where your highlight win was a 2 win SEC team or Utah State, and getting your butt kicked by the three legit teams you played last year (Texas, TCU, Utah. And don't tell me Texas was close. Texas was close...until Texas changed QB's, then Texas went on to dominate BYU 17-3) does not a good football team make.

To hear BYU fan talk up Riley, and say that Utah will be a win is a laugh. Reality is, it will be hard for BYU to beat Utah this year. That's just the way it is. It is a rivalry game, so BYU has a chance, but Utah is a very, very good football team, and right now is just better.

If Ute fans are obnoxious, it would probably serve BYU fans well to remember how the team and it's fans carried themselves in the 70's and 80's when BYU could claim dominance in the series. Guys like Lenny Gomes claiming that former Utes would be pumping his gas years down the road, BYU fans carrying themselves as a bunch of entitled, holier than thou pricks. etc.

I've used the analogy before, but you guys are Uncle Rico. You were a big deal in the 80's, weren't afraid to let everybody know it, and now you're not a big deal and everybody knows it but you. Perhaps if the players and fans would have carried themselves with a shred of dignity back then, Ute fans wouldn't be so eager to pile on now that your demise is at hand. But, you guys acted like douchebags and now you're reaping the benefits. Sorry, but you should be nicer next time you guys have the upper hand in the rivalry.

Wait, that will never happen again. Oh well.
