What's new

Done hating on Kanter.

Favors has a better feel for the game right now. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He just needs to be able to hit that open midrange jumper and finish at the rim a little more consistently. A mean streak would be nice (Kanter seems to compete a little harder on offense).

It was clear, even last season, that Kanter had a lot more offensive skill than Favors. Better hands, better feet, stronger (and more assertive). I've always been more worried about the mental side of the game with Kanter. Even last night he was out of position on offense a little too frequently (at one point one of the scrubs had to tell him to move to the other side of the free throw line when Kanter slid in right next to him; he still posts up too deep and forces stuff/hesitates in crowds instead of passing out).

Favors should be learning from Millsap how to best use the baseline. He's able to explode to the rim pretty well facing up, either off a pass or one dribble. He'll likely be a better PnR finisher than Favors, and he should be better than Kanter finishing on the break. Without a point guard to use his skills, however, he's going to have trouble making a positive offensive impact if he can't keep the defense honest by hitting wide open midrange jumpers.

Fair point that he has a better feel for the game. That comes with playing time and experience. Not too worried about that.

We know Kanter is better on offense and rebounding. So Favors is better at defense and dunking........... So that is my problem. Kanter is improving on different parts of his game (shooting, footwork and looks more comfortable on the court). And I am not talking about improving the body. They both improved that.
Favors has not changed his game at all. I honestly don't know of a single thing he has improved on. I have my doubts that he will ever become more than a defensive stopper. He has all the potential in the world. Superstar potential. But he is wasting his incredible talent.

I've never been sold on his superstar potential. He doesn't have a naturally soft touch or precise footwork. It's hard to improve on coordination. He can learn to hit a midrange jumper and work the baseline better to become an opportunistic scorer who works well off good distributors/team play. It's highly unlikely he ever becomes a good iso scorer.

Tyson Chandler with better ability to get to the rim. That's a good player.

I think part of the reason why we dont see much from Favors is because he is playing next to the black hole big Al. How many plays did anyone even see that were called for Favors? All we see is the plays for big Al And whats the ****ing point of that? We know what Al does. Could we please get some reps for our big with the most potential?

This is why I still contend Big Al has to go. And that this try to win now instead of develop approach is stupid. Its hard for guys to get better riding the bench. We traded away an elite player for basically Favors to watch big Al play? C'mon, this ****ing dumb.

Ya Favors could be a little more assertive, but I think he would be without Al there.

Trade Al NOW!

Roll with Kanter, Favors, and Millsap. We will be much better.

I don't think coordination is the problem. I think it is effort into putting the hours into learning footwork(or he is getting bad advice). Your not born with post moves. When you hear about the greats talking about what they had to do each off season to improve there post game. It was a ton of effort. Each year they came up with a new post move. Now its just spin moves for big men (dwight howard move).
Favors just needs to put in the work.

Kevin Mchale was one of the greats. You couldn't stop him. He didn't have any amazing athletic gifts. He just learned post work. Listen to the greats that scored 20,000 points or more. They put in the work.

He still will be a good player. I think Kanter can be a 16-18 point scorer with 12 rebounds per game. But Favors has way more ability but needs to learn the fundamentals. Rather than being just good he could become great with the right mentor and learning post moves down low. Along with the mid range shot.

Great points on how he can score right now though withe baseline and finding the right spot to be in. But nothing has been improved on with Favors yet. So hopefully he starts working on the mid range shot and post moves.

Great points here. I was going crazy seeing them pass to Jefferson in the post but never getting the ball to Favors.

I will say this Kanter and Favors needs to practice running the pick and roll more. They seem to be in no mans land after setting the screen. They need to learn when to pop and when to roll. They were in between those 2 last night.

So, Favors and Kanter FC of the future, or not?

Agree with most of what's been said about this. I'll just add that both need a lot of work on developing team-oriented offensive inclinations and meshing well with each other. The potential is there, and I think they've made good strides, so I'm optimistic.
