Why do we restrict the voting rights of felons?

Nothing reads like Salty's GOP hate this early in the morning.

Cheers!

You know, attacking me is not an agenda, lol. Good ole Mitt Romney, during the 3rd debate.

So do you disagree with what I said then? You think if Obama wins Ohio (and therefore re-election) the republican legislatures, and possibly the republican congress, won't target felons voting in the next 4 years?

I think that if they were going to target felons they would be doing it right now along with the voter ID laws they are pushing.

Well I guess we'll see.

I look at it as the GOP has basically written off blacks and hispanics. They know they aren't running those voting blocks, and they aren't even trying to win them. Instead, they try to restrict them with voter id laws.

If that doesn't work, the next step is felons voting. And let's face it, lots of blacks and hispanics are felons.

Lol, I love how one sided you see things.

Lol, I love how one sided you see things.

Are you being serious? Lol, I didn't even know this was controversial or debatable. The GOP has written off winning the black and/or Hispanic vote.

For example, while Romney was talking about self deportation and saying he'd veto the dream act, Obama was instructing his administration to stop deporting productive citizens and kids who had been here most of their lives (after republicans filibustered the dream act).

Another example... When republican nutjobs in Arizona made the infamous "papers please" law, Romney said it was a model for the rest of the nation and said he'd sign it as president if it came to his desk. Meanwhile, the Obama administration sued Arizona and got the law overturned.

We could go on and on here. You don't get so far behind in the polls as Romney is with blacks and hispanics, unless you have totally written those voting blocks off. If he hadn't written them off, we would have seen major effort on his part to win them back.

Your arguement was GOP not Romney.

Blacks have long voted for Dems. It is one of their core support groups.

Bush got 44% of hispanics in 2004. Sounds like they have "given up" to me.

You want them to give up and that is fine.

Yes, you view things thru a very biased lens. That's ok it really is. It works for you. But please spare me any attempt to explain why you are main stream or how evil the right is.

Well Romney is the leader of the GOP at the moment, so him giving up is them giving up. And besides, I mentioned the republicans filibustering the dream act and Arizona passing that law (which many other republican states emulated). It isn't just a Romney thing.

The fact that Bush got 44% of the hispanic vote in 2004 should show you the GOP has totally given up on that block. 8 years later, the GOP candidate is not going to get anywhere near that. And rather than try and win some of it back by campaigning for them and supporting some of their issues, instead he is saying he'd veto the dream act and praising the papers please laws.

The same thing can be said about blacks. You mentioned that they have long voted for dems. Well what has the GOP done to try to sway them? If they aren't supporting any of their issues, aren't campaigning to them, then you have to agree they have written them off.

You think it's just a coincidence that blacks and hispanics are largely voting for dems, and Romney (repubs in general) aren't even trying to sway them, this late in the game?

And then, coincidentally, a huge push for voter id laws when they should have been campaigning to earn the minority votes?

I think it's pretty clear, they've written that voting block off. Rather than try to earn their votes, they'd rather disenfranchise them. And if that is true, you can expect felons voting to be a target in the near future.

The GOP has completely written off the Felon vote. Big mistake if you ask me as the felon population is growing substantially and will be pivotal in Ohio, Florida and all other swing states. I can see writing off the rapists and murderers, but all of the felons... cmon... not smart.

I am glad you think so. I do not. We good?

This is what I don't get at all. If African Americans would take a step back from all the sound bites and rhetoric, what have dems done for them? Look at where they are living. Look at the crime in their neighborhoods. Look at their schools. Look at their income levels. Most "black" neighborhoods are in mostly blue states (NY, PA, Mass, Cali). How exactly has voting democrat helped them?

Seeing how the dems went after African Americans, and how a large majority of them are now dependent on the government to survive really makes me worry about how they are now targeting Hispanics. As a Hispanic, we are better than that and I worry that we will buy into the crap dems feed us and turn us into African Americans that depend on the government.

The path to success in this country is hard work, a valuable education (not all degrees are created equal), and the ability to be independent. The problem with democrats is they want you to believe the path to success is redistribution (ie, not hard work, but get yours from someone else), garbage education (ie, social sciences. What a worthless degree. You literally have no skills, other than teaching and government jobs with a social science degree. Talk about making people reliant upon you. Get this degree, then you will have to work for me, because the degree in itself is worthless), and to be dependent on others. You can't afford healthcare, you can't afford a business, if we don't loan you the money, you can't afford a house, you didn't make your business, we all did together, etc, etc, etc.

I think we will and you will be surprised I think.

I certainly hope you're right. I doubt it though. I just see the GOP making way more effort to suppress votes than to win them. And with so many blacks and hispanics being felons, it's not hard to connect the dots.

Why you got to be racist man?

JK

Alot of the rising stars int he GOP are people like Bobby Jindal, Marco Rubio and Suzanna Martinez. I am hedging my bets that they will edge out people like Bachman and Santorum.

Are Democrats this desperate for votes?

This reminds me of an Ann quote:
Democrats are neurotically obsessed with restoring the right to vote to felons. But the ex-cons themselves rarely express any interest in regaining this particular right. What ex-cons want is the right to own a gun. "Felons," Lott (author of More Guns, Less Crime) says, "who frequently live in poor, high-crime neighborhoods, want to be able to defend themselves."

The bolded part is so comical that it's scary. The fact that you posted it as some sort of backbone to your argument is even scarier. I can't imagine the strife you put your brain through, because you must have to try extra hard to be this stupid.

Easily the best and least ignorant post you've ever made. If only all of them could be this concise and to the point.

And then there's this. Wow, a hispanic who hates black people -- who would've seen THAT one coming? In one post you make absurd and racist assumptions about an entire race of people, demean people who don't have a degree that's up to your standards, and then tow the GOP line while throwing an entire party into one negative bucket. Congrats, you are The Thriller and KKKarolina Jazz's bass turd child. Pat yourself on the back, because that is some sort of accomplishment.
