I love Al Jefferson Thread

A lot of hate on this board for big al and I have no reason why? Comparing him to boozer isn't right, he's better offensively and defensively. And he's by far our best player and has been for 2 years. Why does everyone want to trade him? We need to resign him! Are we too used to Malone that we want to trade every PF we get?

Big Al lover checking in.
Tho I wouldn't be against trading him in a trade that makes sense, but I agree he gets too much hate.

Mods, please lock this thread, it is clearly a troll because no true Jazzfanz loves Al.

:)

I'm with you but you won't change anybody's mind.

JF hates him because he can't defend elite ball handlers in space, sometimes fails to box out, gets lost rotating, doesn't get enough FTs and rarely commits to defending the rim. He likes to take a swipe at the ball (it is rather Booze like) rather than riding the guy all the way in. He doesn't like to foul or be fouled most of the time, and he settles for outside J's a little too often.

I'm sure there will be somebody to come in and let you know some more reasons to hate him, but what does it matter? They probably won't change your mind either. It's ridiculous to expect him to be defending PGs out past the foul line, and calling him "black hole" is beyond retarded. But they do have legit reasons to bag on his game.

I love Al, I accept him for what he is. He is physically incapable of being a really good defender, way way way to slow laterally, not explosive enough to be a shot blocker. He can score, is a supremely talented low post player, is great in the clutch, plays alright 1 on 1 low post D. What the Fuuuuuu do you guys want? Jesus.

i mostly hate when he tries to hedge for the pick and roll. he cut's it too hard and never uses his long arms. boom that leaves a clear path for the pg or a clean pass for the roll because his hands are in his pockets

Any word on if he's missing games? If he doesn't play, I bet Kanter still gets 15 minutes

I think so too, Corbin will start Marvin on the 4 and will set Millsap to the 5. Yeah, thats this dudes gameplan if BIG-AL is injured.

I go back and forth on liking Al. I cant make up my mind about him. One minute he looks spectacular on the offensive end and I am able to forget about his lack of defense. The other times he looks like the main problem why we are losing, because of his lack of defense. My problem with his defense isnt so much that he cant play any, its that it just looks like he isnt even trying most of the time. But after last night's injury that he had made me even re-think that. To get a back spasm means you are probably trying, and I suppose he tries not to pick up fouls either. It would also help if we could find a pg that could stay in front of his man too.

In the end I think Al could be a key piece in helping us win games, especially if Favors plays the role of rim protector. I think we could win a lot of games with the right pieces around him and even some playoff games. But highly doubt that it will ever be enough to win a championship. I cant see winning a championship with that bad of defense from one of your big men. Anything is possible though, I guess. We would have to probably win on the back of his offense and just hope he got red hot in the finals.

Well, I love Al too. But I don't want him in a Jazz uniform cause he's not a championship winner with his current role. Or let him stay only as a 3rd big who can help from the bench with no more than 8mln/year and smaller role on the team.

People need to realize that Al isnt the freak athlete that Favors, Howard, Ben Wallace, etc are. He cannot physically do some of the things Jazzfanz expect. He cannot stay with a PG in space, there is a gif someone posted of Lin going by Al in transition for a layup, what the Fuuuuu do you want him to do, he is trying to get back to the rim and a much faster player outruns him. He is not fast or agile, he is a skilled low post player, that is it.

I like BIG-AL but this Guy is just a bit selfish with his playing style. Can anyone remember him on foul-trouble this season ? He just doesn´t want the younger Bigs to get his playing time, so he is avoiding any piece of contact.

Al Jefferson has been playing much better after I started blogging about how Corbin should use him correctly within the offense.

For example, that play last night where Marvin made the entry pass from deeper down the arc and cut baseline for the Jefferson assisted layup. Corbin has also been listening to what I told him about pulling Millsap into the paint for layup passes from Jefferson.

Last six games he's shooting 54% & 3.2 FTA. He still has only 2 apg but that's because Haywierd and the rest can't hit a wide open jump shot.

The thing people don't understand is that....

No, I'm too tired for this.

Take a break, walk around for a few minutes then get a cup of coffee. When you come back there will be this same discussion going on in three or four threads you can pick up again there today or anytime until June.

It is not him as a player I have a problem with, although I do get frustrated with his lack of defense at times. It is the playing time that Favors and Kanter are missing out on. I don't believe anyone on Jazzfanz truely thinks Al is a terrible player, It is more frustration with the log jam in the front court.

The guy averages 1.12 points per shot. That is terrible for a 1st option big man
