Why does everyone think Sloan got fired?

Even Dwill does:

"The last thing I would try to do is get any coach fired," Williams said. "I already went through that situation once when people thought I got Coach Sloan fired. Why would I want to put myself through all of that? There's no way I'd do it, because there's certain situations you can never detach your name from once it's happened. But people already are going to believe what they believe. So what can I do now

The dude stepped down after the Jazz begged him to stay. No way would Sloan ever get FIRED!

Stupid Dwill and media.

Where did it say DWill thinks Sloan got fired?

Holy Christ. I open your threads hoping they'll be a diamond in the rough for once but alas...such does not exist.

sloan and d-will were together in d-will's teener years, when the guy was ahead of himself in desire and demand. now he is a more mature guy. but I do not think he would have ever wanted anyone to loose his job even in the middle of all his self-righteousness and his impatience for instant success. neither now with avery.

I dont Believe he got fired.

Deron said "people thought I got Coach Sloan fired." He's not saying that's what happened.

He should have said "people think I'm the reason Sloan stepped down"

Look at twitter or media stories. Many sources keep referring to Sloan getting "fired". Even Charles Barkley said it on NBA TV.

I'll explain why people keep saying that: no one outside of Utah in the media gives 2-****s about the Jazz... "Fired" is just a shorter word than "Resigned" therefore sparing them precious tenths of seconds that they can use talking about LA or the Heat...

The Jazz PR machine, Gail, Greg, KOC, (even Sloan himself) may have said that Sloan stepped down on his own free will.

But it's clear as day to everyone in the business that the ownership sided with DWill rather than giving Sloan full reign. That's the real reason Sloan left. Call it what you will. But that's the situation.

Oh beanclown. You never fail to disappoint.

Holy cow, you're even dumber than I thought.

Holy crap you guys are dumb. Dwill is referring to himself not about Sloan. He should have said "people think I'm the reason Sloan stepped down"

Even Barkley misspoke on TV saying Dwill is the reason Sloan got fired. They are comparing Avery Johnson to the Sloan situation but the situations were different. Sloan was not fired nor did they want him to leave.

I can't believe I really had to explain that to you ding dongs.

They didn't side with Dwill, the dude was traded a few days later.

They sided with DWill BEFORE Sloan decided to quit.

Then they tried to convince Sloan to stay. By that time it was too late. Sloan never goes back on his word. he said he'll quit, he'll quit.

Here's the thing, if dwill said "people think I was the reason sloan got fired" you might have a point. However he said people think I GOT sloan fired. These are not the same things. Therefor you are being a moran. An amusing moran, but a moran nonetheless.

Has there ever been a player who admitted to getting his coach fired?

Even Dwight Howard would deny getting/asking Stan Van to be fired. Oh wait, it already happened:

People forget, for weeks Duron had been having a war of words through the media against Sloan. From the way they practiced, their lineups, to their (lack) of film. There was a (visible) growing divide between Duron and Jerry even at the games. You could see it.

People at the Chicago game (how ironic was that??? Given the history of Jerry and the 2 teams...) heard/saw Sloan get super upset right before the half when Jerry called a play and Duron refused to run it. They had a massive blowup at half. KOC was involved. Jerry came back into the game silent and unemotional, something completely absent from his 20 year coaching career. He later resigned after the game. Pretty obvious what happened folks. Although Phil Johnson "claims" that he left because of his pact with Sloan the truth is that is only a partial reason why. The other reason why is because it looked like Duron had become the god of the franchise. Phil didn't want any of that.

Jerry wanted Duron traded. Duron wanted Jerry fired. And.... Well... Essentially both happened. Jerry wasn't necessarily fired. But his hand was forced when management didn't do what Sloan, the coach, wanted. The management finally woke up and saw what Melo was doing to Denver, what Lebron had already done to Cleveland, etc and made a move. It was obvious that Duron wasn't going to stay in Utah, even with Jslo gone. That deal with the Nets had most likely been talked about prior to Jerry's "retirement." The blowup with Jerry, the failing of the team, and Duron's attitude merely pushed KOC over the edge to make that deal.

You're cute.

The Jazz didn't make the decision to trade Dwill until after Jerry quit, the team was still very mediocre, Duron still wasn't super happy, and the Jazz front office finally realized the hell which was awaiting them. They recognized that if they didn't act quickly they'd end up like Cleveland.

If anything, Jslo demanded KOC make that trade with the Nets. From what I've gathered, that trade with the Nets had been kicked around for some time. KOC, at that time, refused. I believe he was merely going to suspend him or something. That wasn't good enough for Jerry. Jerry quit. It was only after when KOC finally pulled the trigger. Had KOC backed Jerry up at the half of that Chicago game and agreed to move Duron via the trade with the Nets that night, I have no doubt in my mind that Dfavors, Kanter, etc would be rolling with a HOF coach, not Ty Corbin, right now.

One of my sources comes from one of the Football coaches who my Dad has worked with for years. He has connections to the Sloan family. Jerry CANNOT STAND Duron. "He has never coached a more selfish player in his life." I believe that was the exact quote.

I cannot stand Duron. While Jslo killed me sometimes... He was 100x better than 99.9 percent of NBA coaches out there. and at least 1000x better than Ty Corbin.

One of the greatest coaching jobs I've ever seen was the Jazz team who played against the Nugheads. Memo's career had essentially ended. AK47 was injured. Boozer was a pansie ***. Yet.... The lone matchup we had, was Jerry Sloan kicking Adrian Dantley's ***. Jazz quickly dumped the Nugheads after a bad game 1 loss.

Jerry, even at his latter stages, could still coach the hell out of teams.

True, Pops and Phil Jackson were better... But then again, Pops and Phil Jackson are probably in the top 3 coaches of all-time.

People tend to forget how truly godlike some of our legends were. Jerry, Stockton, and Malone, were just plain awesome. Especially when you consider the league today, with so many pansie *** jackwagons who take nights off and just don't give a damn. If Dwight Howard had half the work ethic and toughness that Malone had, he'd be averaging 40 pts per game and be leading the Lakers to a championship.

I'd take Stockton and Malone at age 50+ over the crap we have right now at the point and freaking Big Al and his pansie *** weezy.

Even if Favors blows up and becomes an all-star, I doubt he'll be loyal like Jerry, Stockton, and Malone. He'll probably take his talents to South Beach or Los Angeles leaving us in the dust.
Sloan, Stockton, and Malone failed at getting that championship. But no one can deny that they truly were special.
