Electric razors...........

I got into the electric razor game last year finally after some librarian came up to me and said, "Sir, your face is pouring out blood." unbeknownst to me while I'm just standing there looking at random books. I was embarrassed because she was cute, and that embarrassment was enough impetus for change. It's was a good transition....but I did on the cheap because I didn't want to spend much money if I didn't end up liking electric shaving so I got this baby in a set with a nose trimmer/eyebrow plucker/toenail chipper for like $30-40 bucks.......

It was good enough to convince me electric shaving is better, it's got 4 stars on Amazon, but it has some failings. It doesn't cut the stache properly for one. It's kind of weak after about 15 minutes or so of use too. Anyway, I need a better one. Any ones you guys would endorse in their commercials for free just because they are that good? Are the $150 ones really that much better?
 
I paid $220 for one about a year ago. (Can't remember which one)

It was the most highly rated and recommended .. I even went to shaving forums (creepy?) and it was almost hands down the best.

I hated it. I gave it several tries before I threw it in the drawer for good. I've hear you have to give electric shaving at least 6 weeks before your face adjusts. Not sure I buy that, but I'm certain I'm not that patient. For me, it's good ol' fashioned razors .. I actually like a really good straight razor best.
 
Seconded. I have NEED some sort of new shaving device. My current electric trimmer is hot trash, and I am sick of Gillette fusion. Responses would be much appreciated

This. Electrics absolutely blow. Especially on the neck.

I really like the Fusion. What I don't like is the frickin' price! $15 every couple of weeks for 4 heads is ridiculous!! Then again, since my head is shaved I go through more than most.

Oh, and electric shavers suck balls!
 
Allow me to add a bit of shaving sophisticate to the board. Take this advice and you'll be thanking me later. Real men, listen up.

First Acquire:

One DE safety razor (I recommend a vintage Gillette blue tip, as it is very mild...good for beginners)
A sample pack of DE blades. I like the med prep blade from personna, but everyone is different.
A decent boar or badger hair brush
A $9-12 tub of Taylor of Old Bond Street or proraso cream from amazon.com or italianbarber.com

You can find all of the above items at a site like Italianbarber.com or westcoastshaving.com except for the Gillette razor... Which you will need to find on a shaving forum like Badgerandblade.com.

Meh. I don't use any foam or gel when I shave. I use to but now just do 95% of it in the shower and touch up the places I missed when I get out. The hot water/steam really do the trick.

I agree with this. I do put a little Irish Spring lather on my face though.

I get that, I do. There are some things in life that I feel a man should take seriously .. put pride in .. for me, one of those things is shaving.
