With Melo accepting a trade all that has happened is the first big hurtle has been eliminated. Now they have to make the deal work cause if I'm not mistaking NJ, Den, Utah, and maybe Charlotte are all over the cap so more players will be involved then the ones mentioned. Hopefully we can pry JR Smith's expiring contract away from Denver. My guess is come Monday Kirilenko will be in Jazz Jersey (too many moving parts for the deal to work) but I could be wrong.

I don't think the proposed deal is horrible by any means. But I don't think it improves the team either.

Players have an amazing way of staying relatively healthy when a new contract is on the line. Look at Boozer last season. Certainly no guarantees though, you are correct.
 
Here's where I stand. Is it worth it to save 8 mil giving us a better chance to make another impact move, all while getting someone halfway decent in return? Yes. If you look at the stats, the only thing we lose with Diaw over AK is shot blocking. Everything else pretty much balances out. AK averages more points, but Diaw averages more assists. We all know that AK's passing ability is sometimes amazing in our offense...well Diaw would be 2x the better passer than AK was.

I would do this deal in a heartbeat. People that think we can get anything better than Diaw for AK right now are delusional homers. IMO this trade slightly improves our team while saving 8 mil.

Just playing on ESPN Trade Checker to make this deal work for all involved something like this would work:
Den Gets:
AK47
Favors
Warriors Lottery Protected 1st

Charlotte Gets:
Devin Harris
Troy Murphy (expiring)

New Jersey Gets:
Melo
Augustine
Matt Carroll
Nazr Mohammed

Utah Gets:
Diaw
Ross
JR Smith

The Jazz would still save about 2 million in salary and another 2 million in Luxury Tax. Plus improve dept at both the wings and PF spots. But if this deal is purely financially motivated then Utah won't do a deal like this.
 
Denver is basically waving the white flag.

Dunno why no one else has said this.

Billips is too old to be in their long term plans. Besides, Deron ate him up last year.

Kmart is broken and way expensive. Nene is average at best. Favors looked completely lost. Besides, by the time he actually contributes Jerry will be retired, Palin will be PResident, Deron will be playing for the Lakers, and BYU will be in the BIG 12.

Well I have mixed emotions. I have wanted to trade AK for a few years and I have felt many Jazz fans have overrated him for a long time. However, this is another salary dump. I liked Diaw when he was in shape but he looked really FAT at the Worlds. I question his commitment to his career. I would feel better about the trade if the Jazz got a pick out of it.

Good points. Not to defend that douchebag, Lebron nor his cohorts, Wade and Bosh, but all 3 were FA's. They had every right to choose where they went. CP3 and Crymello are under contract. But when you know someone isn't going to stick around, why not try to get soemthing in return? In the Jazz' case, KOC and Greg have probably decided they don't want to offer AK a contract next year. Getting Diaw means they've cut their salary/tax liability for this year by $16M+ and they'll also have an expiring next season. I wish they could get more, but Diaw's a decent player. At least it's not like the Hapring dump when they had to GIVE UP another asset.

C Jefferon 36; Elson/Fes 12
PF Millsap 33; Diaw 15
SF: CJ 18, Hayward 20; Diaw 10
SG: Raja 30, CJ 12; Deron 6
SG: Deron 28; Watson 20

Sloan played 2 PG's together when Maynor was here. And Deron didn't mind; he said it took some pressure off and allowed him to score more. I think we'll eventually see CJ and Hayward starting. Most of the Jazz players have been scrimmaging for a couple of weeks. I'm sure KOC has either observed or asked Deron what he thinks of Hayward and CJ (and probably Diaw). And Williams has never been a huge supporter of AK.
 
Would want no part of JR Smith even having a need at the wing. The team really needs to focus on players that make the team better as opposed to dudes that chuck like mad.

Just hoping the Jazz get SOMETHING Besides the cheaper broke-man's AK, and Quinton why-is-he-a-part-of-this-deal Ross. And I still don't understand why the Nets get Carmello AND Augustin.

It won't be from me. I defended the trades last season as either good basketball decisions (Brewer) or so good money wise that the minor drop in basketball wise was insignificant (Maynor). If the Jazz make this trade I will be livid. Diaw is half the player AK is and plays a position of strength on this team. AK plays a position in serious need if he is traded and is the better player at PF as well.
