What's new

Video Game Thread

I hadn't heard Dragon's Dogma was coming out with a sequel, just a few weeks ago I was looking for another game to play to kinda hold me over and I found Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning I had missed so just got that to hold me over until some new RPG games came out.

You ever heard of it? Playing it for about 1 week now but not that many hours and to me it is a little Dragons Age meets Oblivion.

loved it for the first 15 hours. got really stale after that. played the first half atleast 3 times though. really been wanting to play dragons dogma just havent had the time. and the whole pawn system kinda scares me off, not really diggin that,

Finished Starcraft:HoS but it was on normal cuz I don't like playing zerg. Gonna maybe try multiplayer.

First, as to Dragon's Dogma, it's not actually a sequel, it's more like glorified DLC that's being released as a standalone disc. Basically it's the same game, but with a whole new campaign that can be accessed after you finish the main game once, and they've also added a bunch of new abilities (from what I understand, all abilities used to have two tiers and will now have three tiers). And of course they've tweaked a lot of gameplay aspects, including adding in easier fast travel since people complained so much. In any case, it's probably only worthwhile if 1) You really, really liked the vanilla game, or 2) you never bought it in the first place, in which case the $40 price point makes it a more attractive prospect. But if you got the original game and were so-so about it, you may as well take a pass.

As to Kingdoms of Amalur, yeah, I bought it soon after it came out (the developer went out of business shortly thereafter). It was fine, I enjoyed the time I spent with it, but in the end it was nothing I'd write home about. Also, I was annoyed that in the console version you were so limited with the powers you could have active at any one time. They could have easily come up with a controller scheme where you could access more of them, which would have made it a lot more enjoyable for me. Oh, and it was too easy in general -- I played on the hardest setting from the get-go and rarely felt challenged, especially after my pure-mage class character started learning some of the higher-level spells. At the end it was just kinda ridiculous, really.

BTW, Dead Island: Riptide is getting slammed by critics for being basically the same game in a new setting. But this is one instance where I don't particularly care what the critics say. Even if it's just more of the same as the original, I can live with that. I still think I'll enjoy it.

We have similar tastes it would seem as sounds like you feel the same way about Dragons Dogma, other than I may have enjoyed it at first a bit more.
For The Reckoning I hadn't played it enough to say one way or the other I could see what your saying. The easiness of it so far, which is one of the reasons I compared it to Dragon Age because you kinda had to try to die or really not pay attention (I died once when I failed dispelling a chest after a fight).

Oh meant to add in my first reply I also have the first Dead Island I need to play, I just keep forgetting I have it.

Do you make the little people fly off the rides at high speeds? Strand them on a island and watch them starve? Throw them into the water? HAHA don't deny it!

Charge $10 for the bathroom, put only drinks in the amusement park, and roll in the dough $$$.
But first, I really want to design a perfect ride before I screw people over. I've never been able to design a fun ride, they're always super intense and have a ****ty fun rating.

I remember making the best coaster ever in that game only to have nobody ride it because it was "too intense." I call bs on that one, since people line up to ride stuff like the Extreme Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point.

Dark Souls Update: I'm 70 hours in and still on my first play-through. I knew when I started it that I'd love it, considering I'm a Demon's souls vet. I think it's better than demon's though.

The Souls Series is, no joke, My favorite game series of all time now.

I'm rolling a Dexterity Intelligence build. Great Scythe +15, Uchigatana +15, Balder Side Sword +15 and use Power Within and Crystal Magic Weapon on bosses. I'm Overpowered, and cleaning up just before the final boss. I'll be on NG+ in a couple of nights.

Look me up for some co-op:

Next on my game to-do list is Final Fantasy XIII-2 and then I thought I would get into Dragon's Dogma now that Dark Arisen is coming with it.

I thought AP would show up with the gameplay reveal of Dark Souls 2. Did you catch that? I'll get DSII first day this time.
