Seriously though, this state is a laughing stock and the Mormon church has done it's best to alienate nonmembers.

The only people that complain about being alienated are the ones that really want to be a part of something, but can't. Yet you go on about how bad teh Mo's are. So are you jealous? Retarded? Impotent? What is it? This state is a "laughing stock"? You need to put down the City Weekly, turn off X96's morning show, leave the coffee shop, and get out of your hipster douchebag comfort zone/area.

Obvious hyperbole but many of those things were also said about mob-run Vegas. Utah also has a terrible education system, the worst air quality in the country, a high depression rate, is one of the few states that regulates alcoholic beverages, has a seriously damaging position on the treatment of women (Equal Rights Amendment, parent notification for abortions), and a mostly homogeneous population. Legislation is being influenced by a non-elected organization.

I will admit that I don't know much about much, but I have a feeling that my 10,000+ customer base that was 99% out of state, who would constantly tell me how lucky I was to live in Utah, never laughed or expressed disgust. At most, I got the age old questions about how many wives I had. Granted, these were customers of my fly shop who often traveled thousands of miles to fish the Green River, visit our Parks, and see Temple Square. But I'm sure you're totally right, we're the laughing stock of the Union.

You never actually asked what the extent of my dealings with out-of-towners was, but I figured my nine years of doing business with out-of-towners gave me more than just a leg to stand on. You call it an "irrefutable personal anecdote", while I call it informed, realistic, and relevant. well i read the stories and the reactions to them usually. they are readily available at your fingertips. some topics you may want to look into: anytime KSL bans a show (this, SNL, The New Normal, The Playboy Club, maybe others?), Prop 8 in California, Gays in the Boy Scouts, the 2012 Presidential Election, Utah liquor laws, the LDS feminist movement, the Equal Rights Amendment.

Ill never understand the hang up people have with the tv. If you don't like what's on then what's forcing you to watch? I can honestly say I've never watched a full episode of the garbage on tv like 2 1/2 men, Big Bang theory, and most of the repetitive cop shows on between 6-9pm. Other than castle and sports, I never watch the crap on tv. That's why I have Netflix and all the Seinfeld episodes. You don't see me demanding that ksl change their programming for me. I believe in the use of "free agency." Hence, I use my agency to watch Netflix instead of the crap on tv.

Better yet, sometimes I read. It's amazing what those paper things known as buks... no thats not it... bocks? nope... ummm boks? no... oh i got it, "books" can teach you. And they can be far more entertaining than anything on tv. Anyone heard of Sherlock Holmes? Amazing stories!
